Throwing this out there for anyone who has taken a previous Princess Cruise Tour, and then sailed Southbound.

On another thread someone mentioned that during the train ride at the end of the tour (ending up at the cruise port and our ship) we will get 'checked in' and will then just have to pass through security at Whittier to board the ship. Does anyone know if that is actually the case?

Thanks so much, toothmaker! That's great. We arrive so late at the port, that we already miss first night's dinner in the dining room....so glad that we will not be any more delayed than necessary, and just have to get security screening before getting onboard. :p

The dining rooms are handled differently the first night to accommodate late passengers. No worries - they will have food for you after Muster Drill. Often, they are open seating the first night.

We were on the Star following a land tour in May. The Princess personnel board the train in Wasilla and will go through the cars and check you in. Then when the train arrives in Whittier, you stay in your seat and the bartender or host for the car will go from seat to seat and hand out the cruise cards. So you will only have to go through security as you mentioned.

As for dinner, it is all open seating the first night and they are used to passengers arriving late. The specialty restaurants will likely be closed on embarkation night but all of the rest of the dining venues will be going strong. Enjoy your cruise!

We are doing the same cruise end of next May. Thanks for the info! I would love to pick your brain about it and things you did, but I haven't figured out the private messaging on here yet.
