Travelcat2 Posted July 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2017 It is sad when any ship suffers damage - for any reason. However, I have to question any cruise line having their ship built on Whitby Island (assume it is the same Whitby Island that we have in Washington state). Why would anyone build a ship there? We live in Washington state and know that they can't even build a bridge or tunnel without massive problems. Just being honest!

I used to spend some time on Whidbey Island decades ago, during grad school in Seattle. I had no idea there was major ship-building there, but... https://www.expeditions.com/about-us/press-room/press-releases/lindblad-expeditions-national-geographic-announces-the-new-national-geographic-venture/ Here is more info about Nichols Brothers: http://www.nicholsboats.com/ (Apparently the father's boatyard was in Oregon.) I suppose it wasn't too big of an operation way back then.
