SF Posted July 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Some of the people in our group want to take the cable car to Fira and others want to take the donkey. We'd like to be able to meet up at the top so how far are both exits from each other?
♒︎ NautiX ♒︎ Posted July 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2017 The distance at the top between exit cable car en top of the stairs is about 300 meters or 0,2 mile and is a 4 minutes walk, depending how busy it is in the narrow streets. Distance below at the Old Port is only 50 meters or 160 ft. Hope this helps.
SF Posted July 15, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Thanks. Looks like it's no problem to meet up afterwards.
♒︎ NautiX ♒︎ Posted July 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2017 No, won't be problem at all. There also are several signs showing the direction to the cable car.
John Bull Posted July 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Thanks. Looks like it's no problem to meet up afterwards. Problem might be the timing. Not how long it takes to go up, but knowing how long a wait you'll have with both cablecar & donkeys. Can I suggest you arrange to meet at the Zafora bar-restaurant, just a few yards sea-wards from the top cablecar station. Not Santorini's finest bar, but OK for a beer or a coffee while you wait - and a glorious panoramic view over the caldera & ships & such. http://www.shopsantorini.gr/company.asp?id=21888 https://www.google.co.uk/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x1499cdd274a93ab1%3A0x81a80ccf908265e3!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2!1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!2m2!1m1!1e6!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Flh%2Fsredir%3Funame%3D104915702498953425009%26id%3D6434725376997616210%26target%3DPHOTO!5szafora%20santorini%20-%20Google%20Search&imagekey=!1e3!2s-hr3zCZDUeHs%2FV6RlwtOYXII%2FAAAAAAAEAEc%2FgiwTLTwcMmsBOQl6sBS5_G1O08cvHKhBQCJkC&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj6_Keaz4vVAhUCEVAKHSI9CrAQoioIjgEwDg Or mebbe first check out the lines at both cablecar & donkeys, to be sure one of them isn't inordinately-long. Rare Solent Richard Posted July 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Some of the people in our group want to take the cable car to Fira and others want to take the donkey. We'd like to be able to meet up at the top so how far are both exits from each other? At the beginning of my latest review on Santorini I have given the low-down on both the Cable car and the Donkeys. Here is the link... https://solentrichardscruiseblog.com/2017/07/14/one-way-to-do-santorini/ I guess the coordination of timing is going to be your problem - Oh, and the crowds... Jwugg Posted July 16, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Excellent blog post Richard, thanks for sharing. I particularly enjoyed your descriptions of the walking & ancient Thira. Have saved it just in case, altho Santorini is not a favourite of mine, just too touristy, but perhaps an out of season visit....

John Bull Posted July 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 19, 2017 Please don't use the donkeys. It's mean to expect them to haul people up 588 steps in the heat. They're mules, they're bred for the job. And I've seen fat tourists rightly turned away by the operators. JB :)
