Documentation Question

I will be cruising with my husband and daughter in September. She is my child with my ex husband so we do not have the same last name. We did not get her a passport, so what documentation will be needed other than her birth certificate and ID? She will be 15 at the time of sailing. Should I bring a copy of my custody paperwork? Or something notarized from my ex?

You need to talk with NCL. The Parent/Guardian Consent and Release form is at the bottom of this link

Use the ncl doc plus write up your own and get it notarized and make sure if your cruise goes to Mexico that you have appropriate forms for that country

 

Overkill...yes...but better safe than sorry

 

Fwiw I'm just back from a land based Europe vacay with my 16yo and although I had the notarized statement from my dh I was never nor was she asked any questions at all

 

That doesn't mean I won't have papers written up again when we cruise when she is 17

 

Dh doesn't travel by plane or ship any longer due to health reasons that affect his breathing such as smoking in casinos on ships and cafes in Rome.

You need a letter from your ex stating that she has permission to go on the cruise. It is best to include the specifics about it in the letter. It would not hurt to have your divorce paperwork, but it is probably not needed. Other than that you have you bases covered with her BC.

 

BTW you do not need any special paperwork to visit any country on a Caribbean cruise. The rules for cruises are different than for land visit, so nothing special is needed if you are going to stop in Mexico.

Thank you all! The Norwegian document actually says it only has to be completed if the minor is not travelling with at least one parent - however I am going to have more than necessary to have my bases covered.

I always travelled with my son who has a different surname and wasn't aware of the policy re notarised letters etc. He did it from 12 to 19 and never once was I asked for anything when checking in. I was lucky I suppose.

I've been traveling/cruising domestically and internationally with my son from age 6-17 with different last names and have never been asked to show anything other than normal ID that anyone has to show.
