deck level matter?

Does the location of your cabin on a deck matter? We currently have deck 10 inside room. We have a toddler and were thinking of getting something a little bigger. Deck 4 lowest level was available, would it be worth it to switch?

Which ship are you taking?

I usually prefer to pick a cabin that is right smack in the middle of the ship with cabins above and below. If you take a pencil and hold the middle of it between your index finger and thumb and rock it, you will see why the middle of the ship is best. Its the part of the pencil that moves the least amount.

Agreed about the motion of the ship. Especially if you have not sailed before and do not know if the motion will get to you, the lower and closer to midships is best for stability. Sometimes ships sail so smoothly you wouldn't know you were moving, but other times there can be pitching because of rough seas.

But if you want to be close, as in quick, to a particular venue, like the buffet or the casino, then choose a cabin on a deck below or above so you can walk there and not have to wait for elevators. If time is not a worry, then it doesn't matter which deck you are on if you are not bothered by motion.

OK..so now I am really worried....I have never been on a cruise..I do tend to get motion sickness (I take Dramamine) to fly...We are sailing on the Sun and we are on level 10 in the front of the boat.....If I take Bonine or get the ear patch ....please tell me how bad is it going to be....I thought being up hill would have been better and was excited about this level....sheesh:confused:

I too tend towards sea sickness.

We were forward, inside, on deck 10 for our

first cruise, and we had absolutely no problem at all.

I took Bonnie each evening, slept like a log, and never had one

single incident of sea sickness.

That being said, however, I also have heard that lower, and

middle are ideal for aiding in avoiding the queasies.

I would suspect that a lot of it has to do with which ship you are on,

where you will be cruising, and how effective your medicine is.

I would not be too concerned - Read reviews of the Sun; she seems to be

a very stable ship.

The general rule is, the higher up and either way forward or way back you feel the most motion of the ship. From experience, the forward cabins get the most motion, while the back cabins feel the most vibration when docking.

people have already addressed the issues of cabin location and the amount of motion they will have relative to the entire ship.

Another thing to know is what is above you. More cabins? a big activity deck liek the deck with the pool and buffet? Noise can be a major factor if there is a lot of activity above you. In general, people tend to like to below other cabins for noise factors. Of course, cruise lines tend to stick with the "higher is better" philiospohy. You can see this in the way they price out the same type of stateroom. In actuality, you may find that a less expenisve cabin is more desireable than a higher priced one a deck or two above that is under a mjaor activity deck. Just look at some deck plans and you'll see what I mean.

I also am one who gets very sick from motion:( . We took a 8nighter with 2 days at sea and I was glad we happen to be on the lowest level of the ship as we hit some very large waves (due to weather from  Kathlene and the next one after her). Even taking something I could feel the motion but I wasnt sick, just a bad drunk. The center of the ship is the best on all levels. lower the level and mid is the best one for me.... Our next trip we are going to try an upper outside with Bal but I am making sure to stay drugged to not get sick.
