Rare teacherman Posted July 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2017 We will be arriving at EWR and taking either a taxi, Uber, or car sevice to our hotel, and then the next day, either a taxi, Uber, Dial 7, Carmel to the ship. We will have 2 children with us, ages 10 and 8. Are child car seats required for this in NJ? Do the cars provide them? Hate to bring a car seat just for these rides, plus the one from the ship back to EWR. Any info/advice is welcome. Thank you.
hrwi Posted July 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Looks like if your 8 year old is over 57 inches, he doesn't need one. http://www.nj.gov/lps/hts/childseats/childseats_newlaw.html Uber will give you a carseat for an additional fee (I think it's like $10). Car seats are only required in NJ for children under the age of 8, or alternatively under 57 inches tall, so your 8 and 10 year-olds do not need car seats. Under the new law: Birth to age 2: A child under age 2 and under 30 lbs. must be in a rear-facing car seat with a five-point harness. That means toddlers who are tall or have long legs must remain rear-facing until age 2 even if their knees are bent and their feet are pressed against the back seat of the car. Ages 2 to 4: A child under age 4 and 40 lbs. must remain in either a rear-facing or a forward-facing car seat with a five-point harness in the back seat of a vehicle. Ages 4 to 8: Children must remain in a car seat or a booster seat in the back seat of a vehicle until they are at least 8 years old or 57 inches tall. Once they reach that age or height, they can use the regular adult seat belts. Age 8 and above: A child age 8 and older can sit in a regular seat using a seat belt. However, the New Jersey law does not specify when children over age 8 can move from the back seat to the front seat. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends children not sit in the front seat until age 13.

Brighton Line Posted August 1, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Uber will give you a carseat for an additional fee (I think it's like $10). Uber requires you to reserve UberX and then check off car seat in the app. See for more details https://help.uber.com/h/3abcbae1-132b-42a9-8277-0dab00fa3879
