I am not interested in anything but the Dig and the Aquarium, and maybe visitying the casino.

Are there "Day passes" available, and if so how much.

We will be in Nassau from 2 until midnight. Where can I

purchase a pass like this and how much??

Any suggestions??

"The Dig" tour is $25. I loved it, and felt it was well worth the price. It's a guided tour that takes about an hour.

You get a special wristband which allows you to use the Atlantis Beach. However, only paying hotel guests are allowed to use the waterpark.

I've been reading alot about "The Dig" lately, but this is the first time that I have heard that you could use the beach when you purchase the Dig tour. We may be interested in that. What is the beach like? Is there shade available for those who love to sit at the beach but need to minimize how much sun they get?

Some ships have an Atlantis Beach Break tour (which is more expensive than the DIGS tour which only costs $29.) This includes a guided tour of the DIGS and grounds, as well as use of the BEACH in a roped off area for cruisers. I think it also includes a snak lunch.

Some chaise loungers have sun shades, but these usually go quickly. Not much shade on the beach, but there are shaded areas close to the property.

Be aware that all Bahama Beaches are open to the public to the high water mark, which means that technically.. anyone can use the beach, but I doubt you will be able to use a chaise lounge, or hang out on the sandy part of the Atlantis beach without a guest bracelet.

The Beach to the right of Atlantis, beyond the Riu, is public, you can rent an umbrella or chaise, but there are no additional amenities or bathrooms.

Thanks for the response. I think we'll stick with the independent Digs tour and find a public beach if we feel like doing that, or go shopping!:)

Bob,

We found that we didn't really have enough tme at Atlantis and we just walked around the areas that are open to the public. We were docked from 9-1. We did the straw market and shopped around the port and then took the water taxi over to Atlantis. When we got there we really had to move quickly to see the market place (outdoor shopping area with nice shops), the beautiful marina, and the lobby of the hotel is quite interesting and takes time to look at. There is a huge aquarium right in the lobby and casino. You could also walk outside on some of the patios. I think there was quite a lot to see for free and it really covers a large area. A very lovely walk in the nice sunny weather. I think it was worth going to see even if we didn't get a tour of the digs.

I think that we are docked in Nassau from 9-2 on a Sunday. We want to see Atlantis and cannot do the Carnival excursion because of all the walking (my 75 year old mom will be there with me). But I can't figure out since we will have such a short time there if it would be worth it to pay for the digs tour or just do our own thing, we want to see some of the aquarium and the casino. I do not care at all about the beach. Any ideas?

Anyway you look at it, Atlantis is quite a walk.

I would recommend taking a cab to the Marina Village to check out the shoppes, outdoor entertainment and restaurants, then head indoors thru the Marina entrance to check out the Casino. (If you walk the length of the Marina Village, pass the restrooms and ice cream parlor, you'll see the entrance near Murrays Deli or enter thru the Coral towers Lobby). Between the Casino and Coral Towers, you'll find a nice stretch of aquarium windows at the Great hall of Water Restaurant. This should be enough for everyone to get a taste of the Atlantis without too much walking. You can grab a cab back to the dock from outside any of the lobby exits.

If you pay for a hotel room, is the dig tour included? I figure by the time I pay $29 times 4, I might as well get a room and have access to all the pools and stuff.

Yes, the entry to the DIGS is included. Rooms are usually far more expensive than $120, but if you're gonna use the the pools/ slides etc, the price can be worth it. Depends on how much time you have and what you want to see.

Is the Dig and the Aquarium the same thing?

You can purchase tickets to the DIGS from a booth inside the Casino. The cost is $29 ($21 for kids).

The DIGS is part of the aquarium system and is an underground recreation of what an archealogical DIG might have looked like. It's supposed to replicate the lost continent of Atlantis. It's surrounded by the aquarium and leads to the walk thru aquarium tubes. When you exit on the Atlantis grounds, you'll find open lagoons filled with sharks, turtles, stingrays etc.

Check it out on the Atlantis website.

I started this thread....

and when I got to Nassau, we waited until late at night, (around 6:30) and got to walk around the Dig for free...

It was very inpressive, and incredible..

We made up for it by dropping $20 in the Slot Machines...

Enjoy...

It will be a great day!!

I have a bruised and swollen ankle but am going on a cruise next week. I would love to try this Atlantis Digs excursion but am afraid the terrain is too much? Can someone tell me if it's just alot of walking or is there alot of uneven terrain..and if so, can you explain what uneven terrain may include.

thank you so much

Chelle

I am so glad to find this thread. This Atlantis stuff is confusing!! I don't know why, but these ports are much more confusing to me than any port I have been to.....

I think I understand what folks have been saying, but just want to make absolute sure so we can make the best decision. Could someone please answer "true" or "false" to the below statements?

1. If I take a cab to Atlantis and pay for the dig only ($29pp), I can have access to the beach with an armband. Not the pools, but the beach only.

2. If I rent a room at Atlantis, this includes access to the pools, beach, AND dig.

3. If I rent a room at Atlantis, I will be able to "check in" or at least get an arm band for the facilities at 8:00am when I arrive.

Thank you so much for your help!

False.. technically, the $29 allows you to tour the digs and the ground.

Some people slip past the security guards and onto the beach, but it's not really allowed. Some staff members overlook it.. some don't.

There used to be a ships tour that allowed a tour of the DIGS, Lunch and the beach. This was more expensive, and I haven't seen it offered lately. It's as called the Atlantis Beach Break.

If you want to use a nearby beach you can try getting past security and walk to the right to the public beach. Or out the Coral Tower or Beach Tower exits and walk past the RIU to the public entrance. you can rent chairs and umbrellas on the public beach.

True

True

Thank you so much for your help!

Hope this was helpful!

Is this correct? The Digs are free after a certain time? If so, what's the latest they stay open?

After about 6:00 at night, the guards leave the area. When they do, any one may go into the dig and see most of the aquarium.

You need to look and see if any guards are still on duty, but when the leave, they are gone. All you do then is walk in!!

It is a very impressive sight, but no tours or guides. You just have to look...but oh the things you see!!
