Etiquette for using hot tubs, best shoes for a male

I have been on a few cruises but have not used the hot tubs or pool. I assume you need to shower before using them. That's the rule in my condo. Anything else I should avoid doing?

I believe I have read that flip flops are not safe on wet decks. What footwear is recommended?

I'm a male solo cruiser. How does one keep track of their sign and sail card under these conditions?

Thank you

Most don't bother with the showers before entering the pools , that should be enforced. Pools are mostly full with kids . SS ,keep it close by under a towel or shoe or sandal.

I wear sandals which have a bit of a gripping sole.

I only wear flip flops, except for dinner of course.

No people don't shower and are in there for hours. They are not very hot, maybe 100 degrees. Anyone who is drinking and in the hot tub for hours probably has the same results as a swim up bar, if you know what I mean. We never go in the hot tubs for this reason.

I keep my sign and sail in my bathing suit pocket.

I would certainly not count on others showering prior to entering the hot tubs, as grow as it sounds.

For shoes, I bring a nice pair of strapped sandals, a pair of dark sneakers, and a pair of shower shoes.

I think S&S card is waterproof and can be kept in a pocket (dont quote me on that though). I usually fold mine in a towel and keep it on a seat a few feet from the tub/pool so I can keep an eye on it.

No, you all are good. I appreciate honesty. Nothing to be sorry about. I think I got everything else thought out.

My 1st solo cruise, which became solo one week out. But I'm prepared with an open mind, a want to meet people attitude, and a Kindle if it's awkward.

Solo male cruiser here. I wear a nice flip flop all day just about everywhere on the ship. I actually got my first pair on a Carnival cruise--the first ones that didn't hurt between my toes. For evening I just wear a Sperry type boat shoe. My sail and sign card either stays in my pocket and gets wet, or in my towel on a lounger. Never had a problem either way. My biggest problem as a solo cruiser is the waitstaff clearing my plate when I get up for a cup of coffee or water, so I always sit near the beverage counter.

You have the cruising attitude (y) if anything the only times I bother with the pools or hot tubs is when we are in port after chemical cleaning. Watch when they close them and reopen them .

Thanks for the tip about chemical cleaning. Never noticed that.

I normally use a coil (stretchy) key ring on my wrist or arm. Since my hubby always has his cell phone with him for taking pictures, I got him a Self Adhesive Credit Card Wallet for Smartphones. It sticks to the back of your cellphone. Will hold a couple of cards and a small amount of cash. They sell them on amazon for ~$6 and up. I think that is too expensive. If you have time, check out ebay or wish.com. You can pick up for less than a couple of bucks. And yes, the room key cards are waterproof. You can just as easily keep in your pocket if that suits you.

Keep a book with you so they know you are coming back to the table

As far as your sign and sail card. On the first day go to the casino and get your card punched and your free lanyard. Keep it around your neck and you'll never be searching everywhere for it

We love the hot tubs you will too. We shower after we're done relaxing in the hot tub before our nap :)

Traditionally they are equivalent to flip flops but instead of the thong have a wide band across the top and slide on. Just do a search and you will get the idea. You see kids walking around in them after sport practice with their socks on after getting out of cleats or uncouth adults who think they are appropriate for the MDR because "they are sandals." ;)

Seems to me water shoes would be better as they could also be used for going into beaches where the bottom is rocky

I wear flip flops around the pool....no issues! You have to have something on your feet...the deck gets hot enough to actually BURN your skin, even tougher foot skin!

As far as folks "peeing" in the pool....some of us can go HOURS without needing to urinate! So don't assume just because someone has been in a pool for a while is doing their business in there! Yikes!

Not for actually showering in them...because you can slip your foot out and actually wash your feet. They are recommended where my son goes to camp - very rustic and "nature stuff "will grow in the showers!

I don't use them' date=' but I'm not a germaphobe. I just know about them - my son is one of those walking around in them with socks after football or baseball. He would however be beaten if he thought he was wearing them to the MDR for dinner....

I dont think anyone thought everyone in a pool for hours would do that but when you see there for long time and drinking, liquid has to go somewhere.
