Vietnam port access permission

We are planning an Asia cruise with several stops in Vietnam (Phu My, Chan May and Halong). We are using a Vietnamese travel company (Shore Excursions Asia/Viet Visions Travel) to arrange private shore excursions. They claim to need our passport details to apply for permission to access the port to pick us up at the ship. Is this correct and is it safe? We are uncomfortable sharing passport information with an unknown foreign company.

Thanks,

We too are cautious in giving out passport details. Just curious on the purpose of just to access the port to pick you up.

Maybe some on the Asia Port of Call Forum may have experience on that tour agency and their requirement.

Yes, this is safe and most definitely is a requirement for the tour companies to pick you up inside the port in Vietnam ports.

We have visited Vietnam three different times and this has been a requirement all these years.

I would have no fears about providing them with the information.

It is fine.
