Western Caribbean Cruise in January-Opinions?

Hi everyone! New member here. My friend and I went on a western Caribbean cruise in August 2015 and it was great. I want to take my new husband on a cruise out of New Orleans and the prices seem great this winter. However, how is the weather generally? Would it be a mistake to sail at this time of the year? Also, I've read that the Superbowl does air on the ship. Is this true? He won't sail if he can't watch the super bowl ;p

Thanks!

Kara

Unsure of Super Bowl. January is a nice time for western. Last January there was remnants of a cold front that churned up the swells for one of the days. I thought the temps were around 77-80 most days. And one day was even warmer. The temps are pretty consistent down there it seems.

I've been on several Super Bowl cruises where Carnival airs the game in the main theater which is where I've been. I'm been told that it will also be on the outside movie screen as well as all the bars. "Tailgating" food is offered with drinks - not free, but the service is there.

I've done several western cruises in the winter and there is no guarantee of 80 degree weather and warm waters. Most of the time, yes, but I have shivered in the water in January, esp. in the northern ports like Cozumel. On the other hand, you don't have to be concerned with hurricanes.

I now prefer doing a southern route in winter or snow birding in Panama or Australia to get away from the NY winters Jan -March.

The Super Bowl is always in February, not January. NOLA could be cold, it was for us in 2016, like the low 60's. Cozumel's weather is 75-80 year round average. The water will definitely be cooler. The eastern Caribbean will be warmer. St Thomas can be scorching in the winter. We also love the Souther Caribbean, which is always hot.

As long as you're ok with having a chilly day at the beginning or/and end of the cruise, the weather should be very enjoyable, at least much better than during the summer months which can be oppressively hot and humid in the Caribbean
