Mary loves to travel Posted September 24, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 24, 2017 Helicopter Glacier Tour that drops you at the glacier for a guided walk. Temsco is the operator; we booked it through Princess as it was cheaper and included the bus to the heliport. This was in Skagway Also in Skagway we did Hike and Float the Chilkoot Trail with Skagway Float Tours, booking with them directly. You need to be able to do a two mile hike with some up and down, at a moderate pace An excellent excursion
Rare geoherb Posted September 25, 2017 #27 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Our favorite was snorkeling in Ketchikan (https://www.princess.com/excursion/exDetails.do?t=A&exType=S&tourCode=KTN-790) on our first cruise to Alaska. Our kayaking excursions are close seconds. We've booked them independently. The one we did in Chilkhoot Lake on the same cruise was especially nice since it was just the two of us with a guide. LL646 Posted September 25, 2017 #28 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Another vote for Taku Lodge and the salmon feast! After your meal, go hiking for some amazing views! They have three small, accessible trails at the property - feels like an entirely different world!
Re-tired Posted September 26, 2017 #29 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Photography tour. We did the one in Skagway, offered by Princess. It was great! A small group led by photographers. They knew where to go and get great images. There was a pile of tripods in the back of the bus for people to use if they didn't bring one. This was a real photographers tour, not a drive around and use your phone from the van.
polmcs Posted September 26, 2017 #30 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Best excursion we did was the heli hike in Skagway. We were a party of 5 and it was just the 5 of us and the guide (plus the pilot of course! ;) ) so it felt like our own private tour. Helicopter ride was spectacular and the hike wasn't too strenuous and the scenery was amazing. We hiked back to the railway and waited for the train to pick us up. The last carriage on the train was reserved for the hiking tour, so again it was just us and the guide. The guide served us some food (we were a little pecking by then) along with some nice cold beers from a cooler. A beer never tasted so good! ;)
Coupe Posted September 26, 2017 #31 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Every excursion we took was great but I have to say the whale watching in Juneau was very good.
