Cruiseenthusiast101 Posted October 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2017 I was looking at booking a thanksgiving cruise for next year on the Royal Princess. My family needs WiFi to do business work onboard. We would love to sail on her due to her amazing itinerary. Does anyone have experience with Royal Princess’s WiFi during a holiday cruise. If so how did it spare? Thank you for any input in advance!
easyboy Posted October 1, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2017 There are peak periods. We experience better speed when using very early or late at night. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
floridalover5623 Posted October 1, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2017 As long as is transferring simple files it'll be OK. I wouldn't want to try downloading a 1 Gig file everyday. I've never thought it to be any slower during the holidays.
tammigirl Posted October 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2017 When the Royal gets upgraded to Medallion the speeds should improve greatly. You can probably google "Royal Princess medallion" and find out more.
skynight Posted October 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2017 Currently the internet (wi-fi) is slow. It is quicker during lower use times such as late evening, early morning and port days. If you just want to use e-mail that isn't an issue, but if you need to be on for hours you may get frustrated. The current internet cost is 120 mins for $69, 240 mins for $99, 460 mins. for $159 and 680 mins for $199. Carnival Corp has just announced that the intends to roll out a Medallion Internet Service for it's brands. The service uses the O.C.E.A.N. Medallion platform. No ships, roll out timing or costs have been reported, but since the Royal Princess will have the Medallion platform starting January 2018 it is possible the ship will be one of the first to get the new internet service. http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170928006446/en/SES-Networks-Powers-Carnival-Corporation%E2%80%99s-MedallionNet%E2%84%A2-Connectivity
