pegdave Posted October 27, 2017 #376 Share Posted October 27, 2017 Gooooood morning, Seadog - lovely morning pictures & excellent reporting as always. Satellite WiFi uploads seemed fine (tip to others - not quoting the post in replying do help speed up download/data transfer, saving the bandwidth) & was faster than download for us on the BA last time - what a bummer they managed to block youtube playing while not rolling out the new 3-tiered WiFi package, like the Escape or GA. Any luck using Facetime on iPhone to do video calling or just voice (VoIP) calling. Packing a 20' USB extension cable along this weekend to use ... with no bedside charging port by the lamp (till NCL dry dock the ship or otherwise get to do a makeover) Where and how fast is the ship cruising this morning, already off the coast of VA or NC/SC ?? Ship's navigational channel offered less info than the Gem & other smaller ships. Any early sightings of chair hogs yet ? Boy, they sure kept to a small coffee pot in their delivery - great tips, order 4 cups for 2, yeah. CC's Meet & Mingle is almost certain -by default - to be held at La Cucina at 11 AM this morning but the mystery is the BTS tour, has been held at 10 AM ... meeting in front of the ShoreEx Deck next to Guest Services. If you walk by & ask them, should be able to find out if they are doing anything different this week or next week on request from members trying to do both. Alvin, new CD taking over for DanDan, I think as the name seemed to ring a bell, was one of the CruiseNext staff (hometown - Asia) we had last year, pretty friendly & split up the tour group into half & did the laundry dept. first, Have a wonderful morning, continuing to follow - let us know if they are still doing nightly specials at O'Sheehan's as things like Prime Rib would be announced in the Freestyle Dailies. Oh no ! What happened to DanDan? Loved him when we were on the Breakaway last year. Will be back on the Breakaway in February. #55worktoplay Posted October 27, 2017 #377 Share Posted October 27, 2017 SeaDog, you are doing a great job with this live reporting. Your pics are really nice too. I have not been on NCL yet but it is in the upcoming plans. Pardon me if I haven’t been able to read all of the dailies as it is hard to read on phone and for those I have seen did not have any bingo, is there no bingo on NCL? Get back to the Casino and win another big one - I’m sending good luck vibes your way! Thanks for sharing.

Sue1260 Posted October 27, 2017 #379 Share Posted October 27, 2017 Not sure if Alvin is vacation relief because he was the cruise director in May when I was on Breakaway. And you need to check out show in the atrium on last night and he sings. I think he does at end of every cruise.
Heather1972 Posted October 27, 2017 #380 Share Posted October 27, 2017 Hi! Can you find out which piano players are at Howl at the Moon? Specifically if Ben Michaels is playing... will he be on the 11/26 Breakaway cruise? He's been on all the ships I've been on that have Howl at the Moon. Just love him! Pugzila1022 Posted October 27, 2017 #381 Share Posted October 27, 2017 I will log this under Cruise Ship Hallway Stories overheard. A mann to his GF or wife entering their cabin.. “I saw it, a man and his kids were on the rope course and they got hit with a flaming ball, it is still smoking up there”...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Would love to hear more about the flaming ball incident! :) Also, would you have a moment to ask the Cruise Director or someone on Entertainment staff about the status of Rock of Ages. There is a rumor going around that it will end at the end of December. Hoping that's not the case, but would really like to know for sure.

Rare mking8288 Posted October 27, 2017 #387 Share Posted October 27, 2017 I suspect the Breakaway’s WiFi has been down for a few hours. I’m going thru Seedog withdrawals.Me, thinking of the same last night but said, maybe he was busy with the college education funding scheme & being a night owl, just called it "sweet dreams." Silence got me wondering too, probably satellite links are down ... I remember that somewhere between the Carribean Sea and Atlantic Ocean on the typical northbound journey/heading - satellite coverage is poor or drop for a few hours, not entirely surprised. But, let's wait & see whether he will be online again by afternoon or evening - there is no plan B in the middle of the big ocean if the hardware and/or server go belly up. Ship has VHF low band radio comm. to stay in touch for navigation & safety, they can always do manual charts ... as long as the bridge isn't sending out S.O.S. (being a little dramatic, just kidding here) and the azipods are doing its things - they are going to be fine. BA's ship's webcam is live and online, sailing thru fairly calm sea conditions and wavelets, sunny blue sky and looking fine. Currently out of range of AIS data on marine traffic's site. Rare mking8288 Posted October 27, 2017 #391 Share Posted October 27, 2017 ... that is still not a live stream cam...it's just a satellite image taken every few seconds or so ... Sorry, it is about as close as you and I can get - even a life stream will be transmitted via satellite & relayed as there are no cellular signal tower at sea, anywhere ... not yet or anytime soon. I refer to that as a webcam is live and online, which is correct as far as I am concern, perhaps it's misunderstood - exactly what I was referring to. It is updated & refreshed every 15 to 30 seconds, sometimes longer due to high latency - sometimes, nothing at all when it's beyond the coverage radius of the nearest commercial satellite orbiting. Relax & chill out, the live posts are all at Seadog67's discretion while he & Mrs. SD are vacationing at sea & we are thankful. Rare mking8288 Posted October 28, 2017 #394 Share Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) Tcrandal - did you get the info I posted on the Roll Call for your surprised drive. Breakaway isn't within range of any AIS data tracking on maritime radars, but the "static" ship webcam image this evening seemed to suggest that ship is fine - and, mabye, it's Seadog67's hardware - his iPad took a dive into the pool or something silly ... I don't know. Kind of unusual & out of character for the live blogging to freeze, since last night - I trust everything is fine, otherwise. Usually, BA will come into range of maritime radar by Day 7 again, sometimes by mid/late morning - we will see & find out soon enough. Yeah, we want the BA to be back early on Sunday and all engines performing at 100% ... we might be sailing direct into a mini Nor-easter style tropical storm heading toward us - rain, wind & choppy seas. And, didn't we have someone else who posted a brief comment (found it, Brian99) on this thread earlier - no other words or news from anyone else on the same sailing since then ... odds. Life must be good & they are having a good time, we hope. Edited October 28, 2017 by mking8288

Rare mking8288 Posted October 28, 2017 #396 Share Posted October 28, 2017 mking8288 - i might have some bad news for you: the ship is trapped in the Bermuda Triangle!!..ut ohYou are bad :') - you mean, they are now on a CTN to avoid this Sunday's storm ? For real, ;p :loudcry: - hmmm, we are "well" insured for this trip on the 5th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, I can handle NCL cancelling, discount on future cruise booked with NCL and full refund, etc. It will ruin the first half of our planned vacation not being able to cruise ... bags are packed & all systems go. Fortunately (maybe not) - 2nd. half of our vacation after the NYC Marathon is still on - air & land package starting the following Monday (voting via absentee ballot for the election ...) It might be a relief for others - # of CC'er on our Roll Call are worried about getting seasick if we sailed on schedule with this stormy forecast ... if the ship isn't found yet, they might be okay with it too. Just don't tell the Aussie couple that flown 9,000 miles to sail NCL but they are already in town, probably have a wonderful time in the Big Apple now. Poor Seadog67 has to get back to work, however. I have a feeling that we are going to all get a big laugh out of all these later on, LOL.
