crazycruzer68 Posted October 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) Spending a few days pre-cruise in Florida and need a rental car, but am returning it to a different location than I am picking it up at. Trying to get it all worked out for our April cruise. Edited October 23, 2017 by crazycruzer68
samscruiser Posted October 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2017 Most agencies do not charge to pick-up & drop-off at different locations within FL, especially if they are "normal" not exotic rentals. Just check with their sites, you can put in drop off at different locations. We're picking up one in Gainesville & dropping in Miami (w/ free shuttle to cruise port) in Jan. One way cruise, flying back into G'ville.

dd likes to cruise Posted October 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2017 We have done it and it's been decent priced, we have also seen it horrendously priced. Must be the supply and demand theory at play. We have also never seen the price broken out to see it there is actually a "drop off" fee. Just keep playing with it. If you are a member of one of the big box warehouse stores try their travel club. I normally find them to be the best priced on car rentals. Not always, but the majority of the time. samscruiser Posted October 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2017 What company are you using? Alamo; also Thrifty does it for sure as well as most of the other major agencies (not the free shuttle to port).
chrismch Posted October 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2017 Earlier this year, I was charged a drop-off fee from Tampa to Ft Lauderdale. The first time that ever happened. That was in January. Here's a breakdown for next January with Alamo. This shows both locations as airports because they have a broader timeframe for pick-up and delivery. So many add-on fees! 1 Week(s) @181.46$181.46 Rental Car Facility Chrg 3.95/day$19.75 Concession Recoupment Fee 10 Pct (10.0%)$18.49 Tire Battery Fee .02 Day$0.10 Florida Surcharge 2.00/day$10.00Vehicle License Fee .66/day$3.30 State Tax (6.0%)$13.99 Unlimited mileage included
DaveOKC Posted October 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2017 It can also depend on the time of year. In March we rented at FLL and dropped off at Orlando for $107 for the week ($7.99/day)! At that time of the year Hertz wants to move cars from S. Florida to Orlando and North, so there are deals to be had. I know this sounds crazy, but it is true. Garth2 Posted October 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 23, 2017 We rented twice from Hertz in Orlando. Dropped the car off in Port Canaveral. They didn't charge extra & shuttled us for free to the ship. Same thing going back to the airport.
