After doing several B2B cruises with Carnival we are doing one on NCL shortly. I am curious how NCL does things as compared to Carnival. Also, I always attend and enjoy the veterans program on the other cruise lines we have cruised and would like to know what NCL has if anyhting. Thanks in adavance.

The procedure for a B2B can vary a lot depending on which port you are in. In the US I believe that the ship needs to be cleared, whereas that is not the case in many other places.

 

Which port will you be at?

Make sure your ship card has your final departure date on it so the ship is aware you are b2b. If necessary have Front Desk take care of this for you if you booked cruises as two separate cruises.

 

I'm presuming then that Miami is also your turnaround port? If so, you will have to leave the ship since US requires zeroing the ship. You can either treat it as any other port and go sightseeing. You will be given an In Transit sticker so that you can skip the check in lines when re boarding.

 

Or, instead of leaving, you can be led off the ship, wait a short while for the zeroing down, and then be led back onto the ship to spend the day aboard.

 

If you're staying in same cabin, it's like any other port day except you can't return to cabin until "rooms are ready" announcement after lunch.

 

If you are changing cabins the Stewards will help.

 

A few days before the end of the first cruise you will get a letter with details if the ship knows you are staying on for next cruise.

Carnival and NCL handle B2B pretty much the same. You will be escorted off the ship, through immigration and then back on the ship when boarding opens up.

Thanks all. I thought it would be similar to Carnival and others but you never know. The last 3 or 4 Carnival B2B we were led off, held for a few minutes, led on and given a flute of mamosa or some such thing, and a group picture. Toward the end of the week a picture was pushed under the door.

On NCL, don't expect a drink or a photo on your escorted return.

You are led back and left to do whatever.

No drink or photo is fine. A picture of two dozen people I will never see again has no real sentimental value to me. I was just more interested in comparing. Getting off and on without a lot of sitting around etc. means more to us.

A person above said that you can't re-enter your NCL cabin until they say all the cabins are ready. If true this is VERY different than Carnival! On Carnival if I was staying in the same room I've never had any restriction on my access to the room other than during the 15 or so minutes that it took the staff to hand out the new sail & Sign cards and walk us past customs. When staying in a different room my room steward transferred my belongings to the new room and the new room steward had put a rush on getting the room ready so there was only a very small amount of additional lack of access.

On the Epic we were allowed to go to our cabin as soon as we cleared customs, it was even in our b2b letter.

Skipping the muster drill on the second of b2b cruises is not always allowed. Sometimes, yes; sometimes no. We've experienced both on US b2b's.

There have been a few Veterans Get Together but not on every NCL cruise we've been on. Last November the Jade sponsored one to celebrate Veterans Day. Included a nicely decorated cake.

Cannot echo this enough.

Did a B2B out of Civitavecchia three years ago; ship had nop record of us being B2B.

Sorted the day before the first half ended... but only after 48 hours of chaos.
