Jeffrey1950 Posted October 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Just wondering how does everyone dress first night at sea for dinner?
Rare Scrapnana Posted October 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I change for dinner but nothing fancy on the first night.
cruiseluvva Posted October 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2017 A smart dress or trousers and smart top.
pepperrn Posted October 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I shower (after travelling) and then fresh clothes for dinner and the evening, "informal" means jacket-trousers-shirt to which I usually add a tie (some men don't, some do). abefroman329 Posted October 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2017 A suit and dress shirt, no tie. I never wore a tie unless it was required.
Bigmike911 Posted October 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I will shower and change from boarding and lunch, and a coat and tie for dinner. I don't get much chance to be a coat and tie guy, so I rather like it. Mike
Lanky Lad Posted October 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Suit and tie or at least jacket and tie for me. Start as a I mean to go on.
robbie_3 Posted October 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Oh dear sorry I really couldn't resist that first thought. On the first evening I tend to tread a middle of the line approach and wear attire I would for informal, nice trousers, jacket and a shirt, and my DW usually wears an evening dress. wolfie789 Posted October 30, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I normally go for a linen suit and tie on the first night. Sent from my iPad using Forums
poshtotty Posted October 31, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Just in case of late arrival of luggage to our stateroom I always pack a dress, heels,a set of unmentionables, cosmetics and hair "stuff" in my carry on luggage.Safe in the knowledge I would be able to shower and prepare properly for our first evening onboard. Relieves the stress a little, especially after a long day of travelling to the port.
Summergee Posted October 31, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 31, 2017 I arrive at the ship in something that is acceptable for the evening, normally a nice dress, just in case there is an issue with our luggage.
Ben_83 Posted October 31, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Suit and tie for me, same as any other informal night.
LambKnuckles Posted October 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2017 This is so wonderful to read. I know on other cruise lines, you're allowed in the main dining room in your boarding attire, so learning to plan ahead is great to know. I want to be proper and I love dressing, but on many lines I do become lazy on that first night. I promise I will not on my first Cunard crossing. Rare Ken the cruiser Posted December 25, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 25, 2017 Does Cunard ever plan on allowing men not to have to wear a coat around the ship after 6 pm? I don't mind formal nights every once in awhile, but wearing a coat every night if you want to go to the show after dinner definitely keeps us from even considering going on one of their cruises. It's ok as there are plenty of quality cruise lines with great itineraries to choose from, but Cunard does have a few itineraries we wouldn't mind going on. Sent from my SM-G935F using Forums mobile app Cool, sounds good. However, from what I've read on the Cunard site, their opinion of what Mr Monk referred to as "sharp as possible" is not the same as mine. I have no issue with dressing nicely, just an issue with wearing a coat every night after 6 pm, except in certain isolated areas which do not include the theater or main dining room. If having to wear a coat is that important for you, you should definately consider other lines. Edited December 26, 2017 by BobBranst
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted December 26, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 26, 2017 If having to wear a coat is that important for you, you should definately consider other lines. From the responses I've received, you're probably right as it doesn't sound like Cunard's policy is going to change any time soon. Thanks for your kind feedback. Wiltonian Posted December 26, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 26, 2017 I suspect that a fairly strict dress code could become a +ve selling point for Cunard as other lines, like Celebrity, become less formal.

Shropshirekitkat Posted December 26, 2017 #21 Share Posted December 26, 2017 We have never had a problem with our luggage arriving, in fact its been in the cabin soon after we have arrived. So first night is just as the planner says. Usually informal, jackets for men and smart trousers and top for me! Love it!
