Twinkletoes101 Posted October 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2017 am wondering if you can use the HopOn-HopOff bus for getting to the cable car and toboggan ride down. Has anyone done this?
Thejuggler Posted October 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Yes, the bus goes to the cable car station. Hoho route is online if you Google it. However the buses arent very regular. You will however need to get back into Funchal at the end of the Toboggan ride. Its either a walk downhill, or a potentially very expensive taxi so haggle the price. dogs4fun Posted October 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Yes, you can take the HOHO from Avenida Do Mar to the cable car station. The HOHO does not service the area from where the toboggan ride ends (you would need to walk or taxi). Rare John Bull Posted November 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2017 The ho-ho is a slow & expensive way to do this. About half-way \along the pier (so it kinda depends where your ship berths) is a bus-stop for little retro buses (vaguely like those used in Yellowstone or Glacier NP). http://mapsinhand.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/DSC_0005-1024x683.jpg For about 2 or 3 euros it will take you to the bottom cablecar station on R Jose da Silva. The cablecar has two sections, you only need to go up the first section to get to the toboggan run. From that intermediate station, the start of the toboggan run is just 100 yards or so around the corner (don't be tempted by any taxi driver telling you it's a lot further - it's further only if a taxi takes you via a route in the opposite direction ) As others have said, the toboggan run only takes you about halfway back down to Funchal. There are taxis, they'll ask for at least €25, so barter and even walk away in order to get one down to €15 maximum. (that's total, not per person) The retro buses don't operate in the afternoon, if the walk from town back to your ship is too far for you use a tuk-tuk (agree a price before you board, again should be no more than €3 pp) or taxi. JB :)
