Bring back the trays

Well, trays or no trays, when all is said and done, as long as the food is good you won't hear too many complaints from me.

They did have trays on the Jewel.....but you had to ask. They didnt' have big piles of them to carry your food around. I used the trays almost every day to take lunch or dinner back to my cabin (for my son)

Cost-cutting, I'm sure, but I hope this is not an industry trend.

 

It does seeme to be a trend, also on Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I've ordered room service and kept that tray, but frankly the room service trays are so ratty looking that they're almost scary. Biggest problem I have with no trays is that I have to fill my disabled DH's plate, so I have to balance and carry two plates/platters at once (even without drinks) or make two trips while the food for one of us gets cold. No staff ever offers to help.

We were on the Jewel of the Seas in September (different line i know) and they also had the large tray-plates. I for one think they are a great idea, less cleanup for the bussers as well as more room on your table for stuff. Yes we had to make 2 trips, food and then drinks, but i think it actually prevents messes from happening. There were those who tried to do the balancing act by blancing a drink on the plate as well, more power to them for doing it, i for one am not the most graceful of balancers. But i think it prevents alot of people who should not be trying to carry items on a tray on a moving vessel from doing so, thus minimizing dropping of trays and so forth.......This will eventually be the standard amon all lines in the buffet area i think.......

 

THEY CAN USE PLASTIC PLATES AS WELL,SO THERE IS NO CLEANUP FOR BUSSERS:cool:

Learn to juggle! You would be surprised at how useful this skill is. I use it almost everyday. Especially today with 55 mph gusts. Where did that go? :D

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this. We have 3 children, and the two younger ones can't be trusted to carry plates or trays full of food (and certainly not drinks!)...so the adults each put two plates on each or our trays and carry them to the table for the kids. Of course, we much prefer the sitdown restaurants, so if we don't find trays on our upcoming Star and Jewel cruises, we'll just avoid the buffet as much as possible.

When we were on the Star a month ago, they still use trays. Couldn't do with out them. Small plates, bowls. We ate at the Grill and the buffet and trays are still being used. Hope they don't change.....:)

I was on the Sun 2/4 with my father. I too think they should have trays/ and or people to help if necessary. Having said that, more than three times someone came up to my father (85 years old and sometimes a bit shakey), took his plate, and escorted him to the outside deck where we were eating. We found the service on the Sun to be excellent and my father found all of the staff to be very helpful and obliging. This was our first Norwegian cruiese. What a relief to get away from that mandated formal night. I wear suits every day, the last thing that I want to do on a Carib. vacation is put on a suit.

I can understand it is easier for some to have a tray, but from a cleanliness standpoint. Hmmm. In my opinion there is no way they can wash every tray. Maybe hand wipe them, but put them through a dishwasher cycle? I don't think they can do that efficiently. If they are going to give me a large enough plate to put my food on then there really is no need for trays. Just my opinion.

If they can wash every dish, glass, fork, knife and spoon on board, I assure you they can wash trays. They have dishwashers plenty big for that.
