Your personal thoughts on the cheers package?

As others have said, this a very subjective topic. For me, it is not even close to being worth it. I drink maybe 1 alcoholic drink per day. The rest of the time I am drinking the water from the Lido deck (or the bottles we pre-purchased) and I bring my own soda on board. I don't buy the specialty coffees, milkshakes or soda.

Easy. a 32 ounce will hold about 2.5 (12 oz) drinks. They make you wait 5 minutes between ordering so order 1 and dump it in your flask. Immediately order another and then dump it in your flask. Kind of a pain in the butt but its well within the rules and will work.

I'm getting it for my next 4 day cruise. It's easy to drink 5 or 6 cocktails over a 12 hour day of fun. To me, the additional non alcoholic drinks make it cost effective. I didn't like the ship "tap water". We ordered a case of water, but I should have ordered 3. I might not get it for a port intensive 7 day, but for a 4 day girls "booze cruise" I have planned, it was the way to go. It's just me I have to pay for. Add up 5 or 6 cocktails, 5 or 6 bottled water, 2 special coffees, & maybe 3 sodas a day. When I did the math for all that, Cheers was the most cost effective way.

I don't drink much or often at home. At sea, I drink.

You can buy 12 bottles of water for 4.50, 24 bottles for 9.00, etc and have delivered to your room, so including that in price comparison seems silly to me, but that is just my opinion lol

For a week's long cruise we usually buy 2 12-packs of water and have them delivered to our room. If we do end up going with cheers we won't do that this cruise.

Couple of questions:

Can you ask for a bottled beer unopened so it can be taken back to your room and enjoyed at a later time?

I bring a Hydroflask (32 ounce thermos type container) that I enjoy for being spill-proof and insulated. How would I manage to have this filled with a couple of vodka shots and cranberry juice using Cheers?

If you get a bucket of beer they don't open them all. My dad has never gotten cheers before but loves his buckets lol. When he doesn't drink them all he brings them back to his room. I don't know if you can get a bucket with cheers.

No buckets of beer on cheers.

I’m going on a 4 day cruise. So, if we purchase cheers itshould be close to $400. Does anyone know why it only comes to $344.66 when Iadd it to my cart on Carnival’s website? Am I doing something wrong?

Never mind I just figured it out. I am leaving from NYC and they can't start cheers until day 2. I don't think I'll get it for this cruise in that case.

April 2017 S Pellegrino was not a part of cheers at dinner in main dinning room. Customer service told me every ship is different. Always ask if something is included in cheers package

Agree...Always ask! October 2017 - Sunshine. Pellegrino was included only at MDR/Steakhouse. There was no place else we could get it, but happy at least it was there for dinner!

We always buy it- and this might sound stupid to some, but here's my reasoning. If I pay up front, I just consider it cost of cruising and don't stress about it. But if I pay as I go, I will not have a drink when I otherwise would, worrying about my final bill. I go on vacation to relax and unwind. I don't stress about breaking even with Cheers. But I feel certain between the two of us, we do. Some days I probably don't, but DH does, and vice versa.

I get specialty coffee, bottled water, etc as well. But honestly, the specialty coffee is pretty cheap compared to Starbucks.

We have never hit our 15, but have gotten up to 13 once. lol. But it's not so much as getting the absolute most out of cheers as it is for US getting the absolute most out of our cruise and part of that is knowing I can have a drink whenever I want, try new things, etc with no stressing.

Oh, and we always stay on the boat for at least one of the port days, and get back pretty early even when we do excursions, so we still get value on port days.

So, let me ask. If your paid the $800 or more for Cheers, for say a 7 day cruise, and if the total cost of beverages was below the cost of Cheers, you'd be ok with that, its part of cruising?

Do you folks that don't hit your limit usually give drinks to fellow cruisers without Cheers?

That would be sharing and is not allowed - if you are obvious about it and get caught they can (if they want) pull your package without refund

I honestly never go back and add up our beverage costs to see, because, yes, for us the cost of cheers is just part of cruising. I know on our first cruise we probably would have spent less not buying it. However, I wouldn't have been able to just relax and have fun. Since the first one (our kids were pretty young, didn't do the kids club much, etc), we have always drank at least 4 a day plus coffee, etc, so I am sure that we still come out at least breaking even. But again, once it's already paid for, I feel like its part of cruising. We always pre-purchase, so once on board I'm not concerned with getting my money's worth. I buy the kids bottomless bubbles and don't count them up either. I don't want to spend my vacation thinking about what I spent prior or worrying about what I will spend when I leave. I'm on a cruise to relax and unwind.

Obviously, before we decided to purchase we thought about it and made sure it made sense. If we were the type to only drink 1-3 drinks a day we wouldn't have purchased. But we knew it was far more likely to drink at least 4-6 a day, with some days being more, some less. If either of us was an exclusive beer drinker, we wouldn't get it either, but we are not.

Man you would have made a great national socialist. I'm well aware that it is not permitted, just wondering if others did it besides us.

They can pretty much take your package away for anything. Kind of takes the fun out of it if you're always worried they can take 4-800 from you at any time like they did to my wife a few years back. We've bought it since then and have always given away drinks. Doubt we ever buy again unless they bring back match play since we get drinks on us and smuggle to good stuff!!

No, we don't because it's just the two of us. But even if we did cruise with others that didn't purchase Cheers we wouldn't share. A, because it's "against the rules" and in general we're not rule breakers. B, because we're selfish that way. Others have the opportunity to purchase the package if they wanted to. We wouldn't ask or expect others to give us "free" drinks when we also had the same opportunity to purchase the program.

I definitely would. Honestly, we usually come out a little behind in the cheers program (but not by much) but it gives me that "all inclusive" feel. I pay more for the experience, not the booze

Did they take your wife's package away for sharing? Just wondering, not judging. Once when traveling in a group we drank on someone's card after they passed out but luckly didn't get caught.

I bought the Cheers package for our last cruise (4 nights) on the Liberty, to try it out, using discount gift cards, and a free gift card, so my actual cost was probably about $300. For us, I would not buy it again. My husband is not a big drinker and was not willing to stand in line just to maximize it. I found myself trying very hard to justify it. I would wait in line for coffee drinks to try, I made additional trips to get milkshakes, i got water when I could. I felt like I spent more time waiting to get my drinks that I normally would. In addition, I always lose weight on cruises, but this one I gained, I'm sure due to milkshakes and drinks. We will pay as we go, bring on our wine, and sodas, remember to drink the free water that we get as a perk, and go to the steakhouse the first night for our free bottle.

My personal opinion is that it's a waste of money. I'm a non drinker so it would definitely not be worth the cost to me. I don't even think bottomless bubbles is worth it. I understand that others like the all inclusive feel which is fine, but not for me. It's part of the reason why cruising is great. I don't have to pay extra for "all inclusive" for something I don't want.

I might change my mind about bottomless bottles if they had coke freestyle machines.

For a non-drinker it would be a waste of money. I'd never purchase Bottomless Bubbles because I don't drink soda.

I agree that it's nice to not have to pay for things you won't want.

If only one adult in a cabin wants it/will use it, then it's not worth it either. It would be less expensive to not purchase it for 2 (or more) and just have the one that drinks pay as you go.
