2littleprincesses Posted November 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2017 HI! Looking to by an action camera for Christmas for my teenage daughters for our cruise in March. They are novice teenage video people. I was looking at the go pro hero 5 at Costco $399 (a little bundle) and Yi- 4k or Yi-4k+ (currently $254 on amazon) with adding a waterproof case. Anyone had experience with either? Which would be better or other camera better? Thanks!
KiwiFunCruiser Posted November 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Most teenagers use their phones rather than cameras nowadays. They want to snap and send.
GUT2407 Posted November 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2017 The Go pro is, in my opinion the better camera, the Yi saves you about $150.
zqvol Posted November 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2017 The key question is are they going to use it. You need to investigate that before you make a decision on buying either. Most teens don't want to fool with either one.
peety3 Posted November 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Are the teens into "video production", rather than just social-media video? Do they have regular access to a suitable computer with CPU and storage suitable for video editing, and a desire to do so? If not, then 57 hours of footage from your cruise will remain just that: hours of footage. I'd figure it takes 57 more hours to watch/catalog all of that footage, hopefully with a tool that allows setting marks for great segments/notes, then whittling it down to a palatable video clip to share is probably another 10 hours, depending on the level of perfection desired.
