Davetf Posted November 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2017 We are on Discovery. 2 in January and it is our first time with Thompson/Marella. Both my wife and I are insulin dependant diabetics. Does anyone know if they will supply and dispose of sharps boxes or do we need to take our own and take them back home with us.
fragilek Posted November 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2017 My daughter has a little travel sharps box . I think we got her it on amazon . We also always took (now she takes) a frio with us when traveling to caribbean (or the artic lol) as it keeps insulin at the correct temp even if there is a power outage . This was the best thing we ever bought, as we/she are quite adventurous travelers (Artic husky dog holiday, surf camps med summer no electric, camping yellowstone park, -next stop with her -tour of iceland in December)
Davetf Posted November 9, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted November 9, 2017 Thanks for your reply. I do have travel sharps boxes but as we have 11 injections a day between us we tend to fill up 4 of them in the 2 weeks. P and O supply and dispose of them for us and I’m hoping Marella will do the same. Would save us lots of room in the cases. It’s great that she doesn’t let it hold her back. A sensible approach and a bit of forward planning and you can achieve the same as anyone.
addicted cruiser Posted November 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Hi. I would also like to know this about sharps as my friend travelling with us is also diabetic. Also is there a frigerator or a mini bar in cabin for her to keep her insulin. Thanks for any information provided.
Nicki13691 Posted November 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2017 When we went on the spirit this year and my dad is a diabetic and he was given a sharps bin by the room steward on request at reception. They put it in the room and collected at the end of cruise. Sent from my SM-G950F using Forums mobile app

I believe that you can ask for your medicine to be stored in the medical unit.

lovetoholiday Posted November 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 27, 2017 Previously on Celebration my husband needed a sharps box and we got it no problem through the room steward.
Davetf Posted December 7, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted December 7, 2017 A friend has just returned from a cruise on Discovery 2 and did not have a fridge in his cabin ( don’t know what cabin). However my travel agent has spoken with a contact at Marella and says that balcony cabins on decks 7 and 8 do have fridges.

That's true, de luxe balcony cabins on deck 7, junior suites and main suites on deck 8 all have fridges.
