jlmd56 Posted November 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2017 Got an email November 10 saying St. Thomas is back and replacing St. Croix. On "My NCL" however, it still says St. Croix and almost all the excursions are unavailable. Here's the email I got: IMPORTANT ITINERARY MODIFICATION INFORMATION Date: 11/10/2017 Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners, At Norwegian Cruise Line, our number one concern is always the safety of our guests and crew followed by providing the best vacation experience possible. As you are aware, we have been working with our partners in the destinations affected by Hurricane Irma, providing assistance to ensure that these spectacular destinations are up and running and ready to welcome guests as quickly as possible. Our teams, along with our partners on the ground, have fully assessed St. Thomas' readiness to accept cruise ships and we are very pleased to begin calling to St. Thomas on select itineraries on our mid-size vessels. Charlotte Amalie's port area is ready to welcome visitors, as the area's shops, bars and restaurants are open for business. The majority of tours and excursions are operating normally, including visits to popular Magen's Bay beach. Norwegian Dawn will be one of the ships to call in St. Thomas. Norwegian Dawn sailings of November 12, 19, 26 and December 10, 2017 will call in St. Thomas instead of St. Croix. Maybe something happened in the translation from the e-mail to posting on CC. Also, the listed dates are not complete on the e-mail, as it DOES include our sailing of 1/7/18. SeaTrailer Posted November 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Yes, we just got off the first San Juan cruise and we went to St Thomas instead of St Croix. Some stores are indeed still closed but most are open and really wanting your business!
goehoe Posted November 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Nov.12-19th cruise on Dawn. Yes, We went to St. Thomas. Three tours available. Town is open, port stores are all open. 78% of island, no power. Interior bleak looking, but around port and town, greenery is returning. A lot stores on generators. They are struggling but trying to work. Happy to see customers. We had a great pizza in a place across street from port stores and owner told us, "thank you for supporting us and just being here". Another store employee told us many are living together to make ends meet and pooling resources. Go in and spend some money on the island as they need the income badly. newmexicoNita Posted November 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2017 What wonderful news for St Thomas and their residence For the tourists I am not sure. If I were on a ship I think I would prefer to St Croix for the time being. This is like San Juan; possibly pushing a little to quickly, but I certainly understand why. As for deals, if you are going for shopping, I would think they would be great.

My understanding is that there are some safety issues in St. Croix, that's why they changed back to St. Thomas. There will be little to nothing to do in St. Thomas except spend money at the port. While I'm sure there will be deals to be had, I would feel like a Grinch trying to haggle for the best price when I know they need the money so desperately. Oh well, maybe a ship day :)
HUNGRYGREEK Posted November 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2017 We were also on the REPO cruise and took an extensive island tour and were stunned by the devestation that we saw but we also saw alot of power restoration crews everywhere we went so every week it should get a little better. Megans Bay beach looked like a giant fuel/air bomb had gone off right over the valley where it is and the valley had countless thousands of trees torn apart and everywhere you looked were broken electric poles and the storm surge was huge there. The beach reopened the day we arrived and RCI did pay and build new rest rooms and they set up a portable bar. There were dumpsters and front end loaders everywhere but the beach and the sand should be ok by now. The hundreds of beautiful trees along the beach are all gone. If you have seen what the bay used to look like from the MOUNTAIN TOP you will be just stunned. On the Dawn Repo and found out the afternoon before that we were going to St Thomas then St Croix. We were the third ship since the hurricane. shops were opened for us. probably deals on jewelry after being closed for two months. Coolwhip82 Posted November 29, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 29, 2017 Just off the Dawn. We went to St Thomas. I found it to be much better than I expected. Meghan's Bay got hit hard. We took a shared taxi and it stopped there first. We went to Coki Beach. Everything except the service (slow and our waitress was rude) and food prices ($15 for a hot dog and fries) was perfect. vince_g Posted November 29, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 29, 2017 Was reading the VI Consortium news yesterday, and they say that power is 48% restored. They also said that they expect 90% restoration by Christmas. Looks like they have been working very hard to get things back to normal.
Rare BirdTravels Posted November 29, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 29, 2017 NCL has been very quiet about their return to St Thomas and other ports affected by the hurricanes. RCL has sent out big announcements with their plans for St Thomas and St Maarten.
GlamorousGirl Posted November 29, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 29, 2017 I sail on the Dawn December 10, and St. Thomas has been re-listed as a port we are stopping at instead of St. Croix, which had replaced it after the hurricane. So St. Thomas is back in December.
drvmywifecrzy Posted December 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Just off the Dawn and was in St Thomas. Lots of damage but they are grateful for ships return. Most shops are open but some are on generators. Did a sail and snorkel and you would never know a hurricane came through
djpk2003 Posted December 12, 2017 #16 Share Posted December 12, 2017 So, I wonder if those of us who had St. Thomas on our original itineraries can expect the replacement of St. Croix back to St. Thomas, or if this will only be on some....would be nice to know where we're headed either way!
