Current Open Hotels in San Juan

Article posted on my roll call board about hotels which I find interesting!

http://puertoriconow.seepuertorico.com/hotels/

The reason for the few threads about actual experience is because that page hasn't really been accurate. They are either too optimistic, are going by websites, or they are calling hotels "open" when they are open for FEMA but not private guests.

FWIW, this has been driving me crazy as well, and I don't sail till Jan. Had 3 different bookings at booking.com. Took another poster's advice and secured a studio apt at Airbnb. Called # before paying and an actual person answered, saying all was well. I'll have to take his word. It's called Casa Cecilia

Which Embassy Suites? There are two.

San Juan...But I asked if there was another Hilton property they could book me at and I was told the only Hilton that is taking reservations on the island at all is the Double Tree.

Just posted on Sheraton FB Page: Bienvenidos al Viejo San Juan!

Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel is currently lodging first responders who are here assixsting with Puerto Rico’s recovery. We are lucky to have a dedicated team of associates who are working day and night to ensure we can deliver all services as soon as possible. Together, with the local authorities, first responders from abroad and our community, we are confident that Puerto Rico will continue to be the Caribbean’s top destination, with no US passport required.

Current updates:

A power generator is currently providing full power to the hotel and we are prepared with a back-up generator as well

All newly renovated meeting & event rooms are available with full banquet & a/v services (Over 9,000 sq ft. divided between 9 meetings rooms)

High speed internet is available in all meeting rooms

Valet parking is available as well as over 800 self-parking spaces (Paseo Portuario)

Palio Restaurant opened daily for breakfast and dinner

Adjacent Walgreens store opened daily

If all goes as planned, we hope to reopen to the public by January 8th, 2018.

Important Notice About Hurricane Maria: The hotel will not be accepting reservations until after January 8, 2018, respectively, due to hurricane Maria. For assistance with reservations, please contact (800) 228-9290 or your local reservation office.

I have never been to PR so looking forward to spending some time and money in Old San Juan.

Best wishes to al the expert workers who are doing the heavy lifting to get PR electrical grid up and running all over the island again.

Embassy Suites in San Juan is running on generators. The website looks like you can make reservations, but they are only allowing Fema and other workers to stay at the hotel. The said they are closed until December 31st for tourist reservations.

Which Comfort Inn is this? I just called the Comfort Inn in the Condado area yesterday (10/23/17) and confirmed our reservation for November 10 through 12, 2017.

It was that one, I seem to be the only one they cancelled so no idea what’s going on there!!

Things may be about to change on the hotel front in San Juan, and while it would be great for Puerto Ricans affected by Maria, it could make it even harder for vacationers to find a place to stay.

On Wednesday, the Governor of Puerto Rico formally requested that FEMA activate Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA)...once it's approved, likely today, any Puerto Ricans who's home has been damaged or destroyed will be able to apply to get a hotel room paid for by government...which it's expected will immediately overwhelming the remaining hotels operating and not already occupied by emergency workers.

Furthermore, the Governor also requested that the US government move federal workers out of Puerto Rico hotels - either into temporary housing camps (which would have to be built) or onto ships (meaning FEMA may charter more cruise ships, much as they've already done in St. Thomas and St.Croix). While this won't happen overnight, if FEMA agrees, this will also affect hotel inventory in San Juan

Here's more detail on the TSA request as Puerto Rican await FEMAs approval:

If the Governor of Puerto Rico's request for Transitional Housing is approved by FEMA this should be helpful for cruisers looking for hotels NOT part of the program.

I see no reason it would be helpful in any way to cruisers. There will just be more demand for rooms from tourists, contractors, etc in the non-participating hotels.

Everyone just please becareful, We were also assured our reservations were intact only to have them cancel. We are now flying in on the 26th for our cruise. As some of you have, we called the hotels and spoke to very nice people who assured us we were all set, hotel canceled one of the reservations the very next day.
