New to ncl. Need info on getaway ship

Hi!! Thinking of taking our 2 kids on the Getaway November 2018. Caribbean.....Roatan, Cozumel, Costa M aya etc....

 

Need info on ship....great for kids??

Food....good?? We are used to Celebrity cruising 😉

Cabins....specifically balconies....nice??

Service??

Crowded??

Clean??

Ports?? Safe?

Entertainment...fun for kids?

Drink package...good brands??

Many choices for both complimentary and "pay extra" specialty.

 

 

Cabins....specifically balconies....nice??

Most side balconies are small. It takes research and usually a bit of extra money for a large balcony for 4 people. If 3 people, many aft-facing balconies are very large.

 

 

Service??

Fine but some people get upset when a busy room steward doesn't smile at them.

 

 

Crowded??

Varies depending on time of year. Some parts of the ship are usually crowded while some are not.

 

 

Clean??

Should be. If not, have the issue reported and taken care of.

 

 

Ports?? Safe?

Different people define "safe" in different ways. If you aren't naive, you'll be fine.

 

 

Entertainment...fun for kids?

Very much.

 

 

Drink package...good brands??

You'll find something to enjoy....it just may not be fully covered by the UBP. Anything over $15, you pay the difference plus 20% on the difference.

Great for kids.

Not as good as Celebrity, but it’s fine. Don’t cruise them for the food.

Balconies are tiny on Getaway. Celeb’s are bigger. Rooms are small too.

Service was great on my last cruise with NCL. Comparable to X.

Yes, crowded. Very. Very very compared to X. Lol

Super clean.

Ports are ports. Roatan was sketchy. Go w/ a ship excursion, it’ll be fine.

Not sure what you mean by entertainment for kids. There is plenty for them to do and there is a kids club open late, think midnightish. But entertainment is where NCL hands down buries Celebrity. I left X because they bored me to death. NCL has so many quality options you almost have to cruise each mega ship twice to get it all in.

You should be good with the drink package,but NCL is constantly changing things to increase profits. Not sure what you’re specifically looking for but say, Absolute vodka is covered.

Food....good?? We are used to Celebrity cruising The buffet was really good lots of variety. Dining rooms were good too, not excellent but good.

Service?? We had great service throughout

Crowded?? We went Thanksgiving and wasn't as bad as I thought, but yes there were people and kids.

Clean?? Yes very clean

Ports?? Safe? Yes, we went to Little French Key in Roatan. Wouldn't wander around but a tour should be fine.

Entertainment...fun for kids? The shows weren't the greatest for kids, Burn the Floor was awesome though!

Drink package...good brands?? Yes fine for me. But I'm no conisour.
