TravelinGert Posted December 24, 2017 #101 Share Posted December 24, 2017 We have an Aurea room booked in March and a couple of questions-- 1. The listings show the various drink packages but no reference to upgrades, which I've heard are available on other ships. Would we be able to pay the $8/day difference to upgrade from our included classic package to the premium? 2. Assuming we are able to upgrade, I see the premium package includes snacks and drinks from the cabin minibar... so what will we find in the minibar? 3. With the premium package, we could order any drinks/wines that have asterisks next to them, as long as the alcohol is not "super premium," correct? 4. We are big fans of mudslides, which I didn't see on any menu but is a pretty commonly available drink on cruises-- I assume that would be included with the classic package? Typing this up has suddenly made me very thirsty... ;p 1. According to a very experienced CS I spoke with at MSC if there is the button on their screen any CS can upgrade your drink package over the phone but sometimes for reasons having to do with the way the booking was set up at the start it is not available to them. In that case it can probably be done on the ship but not always. 2. I saw a minibar in a balcony cabin shown on a video. There were several different single sized drinks including water, some sort of soda, and I think some beer. Can't locate the video at this moment to confirm but saw elsewhere it is normal on MSC ships for your cabin steward to notice what you are consuming from the minibar and switch it to just being stocked with those items quickly. The snacks appeared to be some chips and candy. I'd bet you can consult with your cabin steward to arrange for whatever is in there to best suit your needs. 3. Yes that is correct. One asterisk for Deluxe drink plan included only, 2 means everyone must pay. 4. I saw mudslide somewhere on one of the menus but it may have been a menu for the Divina. They will make you anything they have the supplies to make and looking at the recipe for a mudslide I think you could get a version at most of the bars. They just need vodka, Kahlua, Baileys, milk or cream, ice, and chocolate syrup. Talking about gelato...make sure you try an affagato, when they take vanilla gelato and pour espresso over it. Yum. That sounds amazing. One last thing. Ashley @ CC reported on the Questions about Seaside thread : Venchi gelato is included in the beverage packages. Venchi coffee, up to a value of $7.50, is included in the classic drink package. The premium package includes all Venchi coffee drinks. Retails items are not included in the beverage packages. Benzbuddy87 Posted December 24, 2017 #102 Share Posted December 24, 2017 Does anyone have access to a current link or post from MSC, which indicates which specific beverage (brands) are included in the Classic vs. Premium beverage packages? I've seen variations of charts, but they aren't dated, and don't seem to match up to the beverage menus in this thread. https://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/5/8/2/0/8/webimg/976814651_o.jpg https://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/5/8/2/0/8/webimg/976814655_o.jpg

Thanks so much for answering my questions, Gert. Having never sailed on MSC before, we have no experience with Venchi but it sounds delicious. What kind of stuff would be considered "retail items" that are not included in the beverage packages?

That's the closest thing I have seen on the boards to what you're looking for. Thanks, I saw that before. It would be nice for everyone to see what is physically included in a beverage package (perhaps on MSC's website), instead of having to look at a JPG of a menu on a 3rd party website. MSC did a good job with the information in the links (post #102), so I am hoping that will be something forthcoming. As it is now, some of the information in the menus is conflicting. mom2tcdx2 Posted January 12, 2018 #107 Share Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) Welcome Bar (Chef's Court, the gateway to Asian Market Kitchen, Ocean Cay and Butcher's Cut) Does anyone know if the drinks on the menu in the above photo are available with the classic drink package. It doesn't have the * by the prices, but when they mention it excludes premium I wonder if since this menu mentions premium if they are not included? I ask mostly becuase this menu has a Sidecar which is one of my favorites and would be my drink of choice. I will be terribly disappointed if it isn't included with the drink package we have. So I guess prior posts sort of answered the question as guesses - has anyone actually had the classic package and ordered drinks? If not it is like $56 to upgrade to the premium package, which is what I will do. Edited January 12, 2018 by mom2tcdx2

The drinks on that menu all pretty much contain "premium" alcohol, so it is safe to assume that you will need the deluxe package for those. We went ahead and upgraded. I figure that in the big picture that 56$ to not have to worry about it is worth it. PLUS... I like the idea of being able to use the minibar in my room at no extra charge. If not it is like $56 to upgrade to the premium package, which is what I will do.Since the price point of these drinks are 9.00 and since many of the main alcohols are from the deluxe list, I think it's a safe assumption that these drinks are not covered by the classic package and you'll have to invest in the 56.00 per person for the upgrade. The upgrade also includes the top end products at Venchi chocolates including their various martinis.

I believe the Sidecar on that menu uses premium ingredients. You should be able to order a traditional Sidecar, without using premium ingredients. A bartender should be able to make one with Brandy or Cognac and Triple Sec - tell them that you have the Classic Beverage package.

Greyhound Mother Posted January 13, 2018 #112 Share Posted January 13, 2018 We're on the Seaview in June, and I was going to upgrade myself and my husband to the deluxe drinks package purely because of Heineken being the only beer that might be available. Looking at these menus it looks like there are the branded bottles of beer, such as Stella available on the regular drinks package. Confused now! I guess the Med menus will be different, but would rather upgrade before we go to save the 15% tax. Any thoughts?
Rare Beamafar Posted January 13, 2018 #113 Share Posted January 13, 2018 I guess the Med menus will be different, but would rather upgrade before we go to save the 15% tax. You're right. The all-inclusive drinks package for Med cruises has a more limited range of drinks. However, it's also a lot cheaper @ €26 pppd!
Greyhound Mother Posted January 13, 2018 #114 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Decision made then ;) Will look to upgrade, as the Heineken won't cut it I don't think!
Rare Beamafar Posted January 13, 2018 #115 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Decision made then ;) Will look to upgrade, as the Heineken won't cut it I don't think! If other bottled beers are included in the classic drinks package, why would you want to upgrade? (Although in your case it's not a hugely extra cost - from what I've read on here it may only be $56 for the week, which is great value when you consider what else is included. In the Med, it's an extra €24 pp PER DAY to upgrade!!).
Greyhound Mother Posted January 13, 2018 #116 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Ahhh, sorry misunderstood in thinking the bottled beers weren't included. You're right, I'd rather not upgrade as the inclusive package would suit me, and obviously we would both need to do it, the cost for both of us would add up. Would rather spend the cash on shopping! If you can find a mixologist that knows what they're doing instead of a bartender that only knows the drinks on the menu, then you should be able to get your drink. I'm a bit of a stickler about it being made correctly, so I never tried ordering it on my cruise. I also never saw a bottle of Benedictine in the bars, so couldn't say if it could be made properly anywhere onboard. ashley@cruisecritic Posted January 14, 2018 Author #122 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Hi AshleyAre the hot alcoholic coffee drinks included in the coffee package? Thanks for posting the menus :) That's a great question! I'm not sure of the answer, but I would assume you'd need an alcohol package to order anything with alcohol in it and not be charged. Anyone else know?
