Balcony - what will I see

Greetings,

Looking at booking a Scandinavia/Russia cruise and was wondering if a balcony was worth it. I know in the summer days are long with sunset not until 10ish. Question is will there be something to see or will the ship (Seranade OTS) be too far from shore for it to matter. We've seen plenty of ocean and are thinking of saving money by going interior this time.

TIA,

Ed

Some of the sail-ins/sail-outs can be pretty (say, through the Stockholm archipelago). But you can see those from public spaces (say, from a window while having breakfast or dinner). Otherwise, when you're "at sea," it's pretty non-eventful (maybe some land in the distance) and possibly chilly, even in the summer. We had an interior and didn't miss having a balcony, especially given that we spent so much time off the ship, and I like it *dark* when I sleep. And especially since we saved a significant amount of money.

Agreed. Having done it, I'd really consider an inside room if you like it dark to sleep and don't need a window. We had a balcony, and went out on it a hand full of times. It was cool and windy our entire trip the first week in June.

The sail in and out of Stockholm was very pretty, which we enjoyed on the deck with a local beer.

My feeling is that I usually want to be on deck so that I can see both sides. Sailing in/out of Stockholm is great and I went from side to side. Also, leaving ST. P. you go past an abandoned naval base which is interesting.
