MA/NJ/NYC Posted December 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2017 hi there! I was looking at Windstar vs Paul Gaugin for Tahiti. This will be for a wedding/ honeymoon. The prices on windstar look great with the sale right now. Just wondering your thoughts.... One travel agent seemed to really push me with Paul Gaugin.... Strenz Posted December 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2017 Honeymoon, Wind Spirit, Tahiti, nothing better or more romantic. Tahiti screams small ship, sail! Congratulations have a fabulous time. Happy Sailing.
vlaurend Posted December 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2017 We just did the Windstar cruise last month and had 130 passengers and 100 crew. It was an incredible experience and we loved the fact that our ship allowed us to "be the scenery" instead of interrupting the scenery (the Wind Spirit is so beautiful with its sails!). But everyone is different. If you want intimacy, the Windstar experience is for you. But if you want more options for activities, PG might have a bit of an advantage. Also, if you are heavy drinkers, PG may end up being more economical, since alcoholic drinks are included in the base price. But if you expect to drink no more than 3-4 drinks on the ship per person per day, Windstar will be a better deal (alcoholic drinks are pay-as-you-go but reasonably priced). 6rugrats Posted December 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2017 I've sailed both Windstar and PG in French Polynesia, and would recommend Windstar.
MA/NJ/NYC Posted December 27, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted December 27, 2017 Thank you so much everyone! The sale right now is so good. We hope to book today! I wonder why that one TA was pushing PG ? Made me second guess things....
6rugrats Posted December 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2017 Maybe the TA gets a larger commission from PG.
Cruisedreamer1 Posted January 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2018 The Paul Guaguin is a wonderful ship too. It is larger with 320 passengers. You get a cultural intro by their wonderful Guaguines and guest lecturers. You go to the same beaches as the Windstar ships. They have nice evening entertainers. Since the ship is larger you have more stability. Age wise the passengers are the same. Of course, all liquor is included. It comes down to which dates and itineraries work for you. YOU will have a cruise of a life time whichever line you chose. Let us know what you decide and report back once you come back.:)
MA/NJ/NYC Posted January 3, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted January 3, 2018 Thank you so much everyone! We booked Windstar for Aug 2017. I still need to book air and hotels. I think we will stop for a night in LA both sides of the cruise. I would also love to stay in an OWB a night before and after the cruise. Is it worth it in Tahiti? I know everyone says OWB in Moorea or Bora Bora... but for ease I think Tahiti. Then I have to figure out if we will have our ceremony on the ship, or somewhere else on the islands. Thank you for all of your help so far!
6rugrats Posted January 3, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2018 It’s not worth it on Tahiti IMO, and certainly not for two nights. I think it would be better to either arrive two days early, or stay two days after and go to Moorea. What ceremony are you talking about?

Cruisedreamer1 Posted January 3, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 3, 2018 Check out the legalities of getting married in French Polynesia. Your ta can help you out with this question. Some marry in states civilly and then have a symbolic ceremony in fp.
6rugrats Posted January 3, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 3, 2018 (edited) You can't get legally married by the captain on a Windstar ship In FP. Cruisedeamer1 is right. It's much easier, and less expensive, to get legally married before you go, and have a symbolic ceremony in FP. You can easily find out the requirements with a quick google search. MA/NJ/NYC Posted January 7, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Yes. The wedding will be symbolic and we will do it legally in the states before or after FP.
MA/NJ/NYC Posted January 7, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted January 7, 2018 See post #1. The ceremony will just be symbolic. You can have the captain do it on the ship. Or I was thinking of doing a ceremony on one of the islands (Bora Bora?) at a hotel....
