cole'snana Posted January 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2018 Someone on Grandeur reviews posted recently going to Emerald Beach in St Thomas via a jitney, and they said some even walked there. Does anyone have info on the jitney and where to get it? How far is the walk from the port? We love to walk, does anyone have directions? Thanks.:)
racerxspeedy Posted January 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Google maps shows the walk from the Crown Bay Pier to Emerald to be 1.2 miles. Not bad, but there may not be sidewalks. RC has been using Crwon Bay more. If you dock at Havensite pier the walk would be 3 miles.
Ms411 Posted January 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2018 There are sidewalks if you go through Nisky Center on Google maps and keep heading west.
boca7 Posted January 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2018 There are sidewalks if you go through Nisky Center on Google maps and keep heading west. I would not recommend walking, very hilly & a hard walk. Pay the taxi, worth it.
Ms411 Posted January 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2018 There are 2 routes. The taxis go the hilly, unsafe route. The walking route is mostly flat.
Livethelife Posted January 9, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2018 I agree with the opinions of both boca7 and Ms411. There are two routes but I agree with boca7 that the jitney/taxi is the best way for visitors to go. It is not expensive transportation and you will enjoy your day. If you decide to walk, definitely take the Nisky Center route. The "shortcut" route is a steep hilly, winding, narrow, heavily traveled industrial road with no sidewalks. Even before the hurricanes it is/was an unsafe route to walk. My reservation about walking the Nisky route is the heat! This route has a gradual upgrade but it is in the sun the whole way. Unless one is acclimated to exercise in a tropical climate this might not be a walk you would enjoy. And finally FYI - I have no involvement with the taxi business, financial or otherwise. I only want visitors to have a happy healthy day and return to St Thomas for extended vacations. :)
racerxspeedy Posted January 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2018 The walk to Emerald beach from the Crown Bay Pier is roughly the same distance as walking into town from the Havensite Pier (1.2mi). We enjoy taking these walks to help offset all of the drinks and food we indulge in on our cruises.
cole'snana Posted January 11, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Could you tell us from getting off the ship the directions for the walk?
racerxspeedy Posted January 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Map from Crown bay to Emerald beach staying on the flatter Main roads. Less direct but has sidewalk in most areas. Take a right when you come out of the shopping area and head toward the Nisky Shopping area.
rcsharp121 Posted January 12, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 12, 2018 is there a spot to buy drinks here? or should i look at bringing a small cooler and filling it before going to the beach? we're fine with a towel and sitting in the sand but would love a cold beverage to go along with it. It says it is open now. We just returned from our cruise and had the pleasure of visiting Emerald beach on Tuesday. Beach and resort is fully open for cruisers and day guests and they have done an incredible job post hurricane restoration. The beach bar is open, the restaurant is open and all looks great! Plenty of chairs, umbrellas for rent and the beach is beautiful. One of our favorite days! The staff at the Emerald beach resort are simply wonderful and hospitable and back in full force Sent from my iPhone using Forums
