New to traditional dining

Princess is pretty good about accommodating. Your cruise personalizer ought to tell you if your dining request is confirmed. If not, it should tell you where in the queue your request is located. As in, "26th in line for your request." We requested table for four for one cruise with two others with whom we traveled. We were way down in the queue two weeks out (when we made the request). Two days before we sailed our request was confirmed. Great table btw.

On the other hand a request for table of eight was changed to table of six even though confirmed in the personalizer. This was the only time our request was confirmed in personalizer and denied on board.

On our last cruise we were "confirmed" for a table for 8 and 6:00PM dining. Once onboard we had a table for 10 and 5:30 PM dining. We lucked out with the dinner companions though and enjoyed the people and conversation very much.

If you sat with my wife it would turn into a 3 hour dinner & you'd never get to any shows.....EVER.

We tend to gab on, as well. That is why we ask for 5:30 traditional with table of eight on cruises with many sea days. Someone at the table tends to notice the surrounding silence intermixed with sighed breathes of the waiters.

Just checked personaliser and it lists us as 5.45 requested and confirmed on front screen but when you go into details it actually says Dining Time 5.45 (Waitlist #359) and under Table Size says 2 persons with no mention of waitlist. So does the Waitlist number refer to dining time or table size?

You are confirmed only for the dining time (in your case, 5;45pm). And you are confirmed if it says "confirmed." The waitlist # is there to show you how many people are not confirmed for early dining but are on the list hoping to get confirmed -- in other words, someone booking your cruise right now and requesting early dining would not get confirmed but would be #359 on the waitlist.

You do not get a table size confirmed. It's only a request, up until the time the maitre d' makes out the seating chart for your cruise, which happens a day or two before the cruise begins. So, whatever table size you're selected is just a wish, one which may or may not come true, depending upon how well the maitre d' can juggle everyone's table-size requests.

We have always taken up the option of Anytime Dining but it is not available for our upcoming Japan cruise on the Diamond. I requested a table for 2 in the personaliser and am wondering how likely this is to eventuate. How does this system work - when do you get advised of your table configuration and can anything be done to increase the chances of getting a table for 2? If at a shared table do you have to wait for the others at table to turn up before ordering?

We always request a table for 2 early seating and have always received it.

But I always make sure on embarkation day to confirm our seating assignment by searching in the dining room for our assigned table or asking the Maitre D.
