Mylisa Posted January 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2018 We will be in Shanghai in March at the end of a cruise and I’ve emailed several private tour guides I got off of Trip Advisor for Shanghai but none of them have responded. I’ve emailed both Miki Tours and Beijing Service. Can anyone recommend someone to me please? Thanks
Mylisa Posted January 8, 2018 Author #2 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Bump. Surely someone has a Shanghai tour guide they can recommend!
Melba51 Posted January 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2018 We used a guide about 5 years ago and would recommend him but not sure whether he is still doing it. He was very knowledgeable esp on history and spoke English very well. If I could private message you somehow I could give you his email address... laughing husky Posted January 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2018 https://authenticshanghai.jimdo.com/about-us/ Ask for Flora Lin....that is her "English" name. she speaks English quite well, She will arrange whatever interest you. We were interested in Going outside of shanghai to the Gardens in Suzhou by local transportation. It was wonderful. We used Flora for several days while we were there. I was interested in the markets and in food. She did exactly what we wanted her to do. She is also on Face Book so you might be able to message her there. I had no problems getting a response from her, but she does travel. I highly recommend her.
Ashland Posted January 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2018 We have visited Shanghai several times..it's actually a very easy city to see on your own..do a bit of research and consider it. You can use the MRT to get almost anywhere. Sorry but the one time we did go out to Suzhou I was a bit disappointed in the time it took to get there and what was there...JMHO

My cousin worked as a bio medical engineer at Johnson and Johnson in Suzhou, and so I have had an opportunity to visit on a few occasions. I love water towns, and I love gardens...and I think that Suzhou has one of the finest gardens in China. Yes, it does take about a couple of hours on the train, but I always think that local transportation is interesting. Looking forward to a bullet train in Japan. And I do agree that Shanghai is an easy city to get around in...however, many people have limited time and feel that it is easier to use a guide for whatever reasons. We actually used a private guide to take us there since during that particular trip we were on a land tour...but I sure wouldn't care to make the trip on my own...just my personal opinion...but glad you enjoyed it. CJcruzer Posted January 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I contacted Jean L. through tours by locals and we had a wonderful tour (most of us it was our second time in Shanghai). Jran arranged a minibus and driver for the day, so I would think you can discuss whatever itinerary you want.
