Rare GotMINI Posted January 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2018 This is my first time purchasing this on a Carnival ship. If I dare say another cruise line's name, on Royal Caribbean they give you a tumbler with a chip in it and it's self serve at the vending machines at various locations around the ship. For Carnival, I have seen no mention of a tumbler or of vending machines. So -- how exactly do we get our endless supply of non-alcoholic beverages? Shaded Lady Posted January 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Unfortunately they don't have the Freestyle vending machines on Carnival. You have to go to a bar and show them the sticker on your S&S card. They will give you a clear glass of about 10 oz- most bars serve the soda from a can and the glasses don't hold a full can, with ice. You can also purchase your own Carnival insulated mug but it holds about the same as the clear glass. You can only get one at a time per S&S card. Rare GotMINI Posted January 14, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 14, 2018 If you bring your own tumbler on-board, will they fill it for you?
StormySeas Posted January 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2018 I was wondering that myself. If I have the package, will they fill a cup I brought onboard? I have a 20 oz insulated tumbler that I carry everywhere. would they fill that up for me?
cocoonwoman Posted January 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2018 I’ve taken my own 20oz cup and the bartenders always fill it up for me. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Moviela Posted January 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2018 The ships I have been on serve soda from cans. They do not have dispensers like most bars or eateries on land. The most you can get at a time is 12 ounces from a can. They are not supposed to fill your container, but if you ask politely, they will empty the can into your mug. Add ice and your 20 0z is full. I found most of the time the cans are not kept cold, so ice is required if you drink your soda like most of America.

loxley Posted January 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2018 One good thing is you do not have to go to the machine. You can go to any bar or you can order from one of the roving Waiters including in the main dining room. Moviela Posted January 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Will they just give you the can? I don't get the bottomless bubbles, but do get Drinks on Us from the casino. I have asked the waiter to bring me the can and a glass of ice. I collect a few cans, then have free soda in the Punchliner comedy club. Just ask the bar for a glass of ice. I always bring a twelve pack of Mountain Dew in my carry on cooler. They don't have it on the ships. Carnival like Disney is Coke products exclusively. Rare kctwinmommy Posted January 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 16, 2018 I've been able to get the can from some bartenders. I also ask for little to no ice sometimes too.

res2cue Posted January 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Not too many years ago we were given a tumbler when we bought the drink package for our kids.. or maybe it was an option to purchase? Either way we got them each one. Do they not have these anymore? Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

lucyddr Posted January 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 17, 2018 We’ve found them to be difficult to use now that the Cheers program is in play. The bartenders always seem to be too busy for sodas and we wait forever. Waiters in dining rooms can’t serve them and by the time the bar staff brings the drinks, desserts have been served. We love soda and have no issues with the card cost...but probably won’t buy cards this year because we just find getting sodas to be too much of a wait and hassle. Choose Hope Posted January 17, 2018 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2018 On the Dream just last week, I brought along Tervis tumblers for each of the kids to use as they came in very handy on our last cruise four years prior. This time though, they were handed the entire soda can (Bottomless Bubbles) along with a cup of ice each and every time they went to the bar. I had heard some people state that Bottomless Bubbles passengers did not get as good of service as Cheers passengers ... none of my five kids found this to be the case at all. They all felt like they received quick and cheerful service.

Yes, it may take a few minutes when a bar is busy. But there are so many places to get drinks, so I've never had anything like this happen. The other thing we've done for dinner is stop at a bar on our way into the dining room. Although, I've also had great waiters who knew I'd be drinking a soda at dinner and they always had one ready, or at least asked me as soon as I got there. I've had the BB card every time I've cruised, except the last one because we had friends who were able to bring a couple of 12 packs for me (they live local). But they always had the Cheers program too, and still haven't had those problems.

On the Dream last year, we even requested that we have Diet Coke on the table each night. It happened once. Many nights, we ordered and never received them. My average wait time for one was over 5 minutes, which isn’t worth it for me. And yes, I tipped extra. And no, I’m not rude. We really don’t want to deal with bringing our own soda on board, so we will likely buy B.B. again...but I have low expectations. If it matters, I had the same general experience on my last RC cruise as well. And in all fairness, our wait staff was the slowest we’ve ever had on that cruise...so slow that many and finished left the dining room before we got our main course (and we always arrived early). Maybe we just got a bum deal in this regard, but I honestly drank the equivalent of 8 cans that cruise because the waits were so bad. The positive is jay we had a wonderful vacation, so we just chalked this up to less staff and more people at the bars. Rare GotMINI Posted January 17, 2018 Author #21 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Seems very wasteful to be pouring beverages from cans. Not to mention not cost effective from Carnival - they would make more money from fountain drinks.

ccd228 Posted January 19, 2018 #25 Share Posted January 19, 2018 I wouldn't get Bottomless bubbles again. Went on Glory last June and it was difficult to get a soda during the day. Having to go the bar and wait for a soda everytime I ate would take too long. It wasn't worth it for me.
