Help with currency

Hello

We have 2 ports in Thailand - Ko Samui and Laem Chabang - we intend to walk to the local beach in Ko Samui and probably a day trip to Pattaya - Are we best with Thai Baht or US $?

Also Vietnam - Phu my, Danang and Halong Bay - are US $ acceptable in these ports - I think the Vietnam Dong is a closed currency

Thanks for any advice

H

Hi Helen,

Since you are in both countries for 2 days, best to get local currencies - esp Thai baht. And fix up your trip to Pattaya (not Bangkok ???) in advance to avoid the taxi cartel at L/C.

VND is not a closed currency, you can buy in the U.K. But you'll have to hunt around the exchange bureaux. Do carefully check the number of noughts on the notes cos there's a helluva lot and it's easy to accidentally pay ten-fold, even 100-fold. The upside is that for a few days you'll be a millionaire :)

In Vietnam which we have visited many times we just use USA currency and it is welcomed. We do use credit card in restaurants and stores.

In Thailand we get local currency as it is required in some places and find it easy to get it.
