Gift cards.

Is there any disadvantage/advantage to using Cruise Cash or waiting until you're onboard to have the gift card applied to your account? I'm going on my first cruise in June and am planning on applying AARP gift cards to my account to pay for onboard expenses and excursions.

I personally prefer applying it on board. Cruise cash is not refundable. Use it or lose it.

Unspent gift card amount will be refunded as new gift cards.

Hope you have a great cruise.

Thanks so much for explaining the difference. I'll wait until I get on board to have them applied to my account. I am super excited about the cruise, there are 11 of us going and we're celebrating my recent retirement. I think it will be a wonderful way to celebrate!

You're welcome. A couple of posters on this board whose opinions I truly respect prefer the Cruise Cash so I would agree there are reasons to do it each way.

I took my first cruise in decades the year before I retired. I have never looked back!

Happy sailing.

Or if you have money left on the gift card instead of getting new gift cards for the remainder you can go to the casino, load the money into a slot machine and then cash out. Take the ticket to the casino cashier and get your money. We did that on the Magic in July because we didn’t know when we would cruise Carnival again so didn’t want another gift card.

You can do the same thing with cruise cash. We always start with a little bit of cruise cash (purchased with gift cards) so that I can wait until the next day to go to GS.

Can you elaborate on this? How do you save 10%?

Do a search for AARP gift cards or Allstate gift cards. Lot of threads explaining.

For AARP, you go to their website (do NOT have to be a member), sign up for the Rewards for Good program, earn points. Then you can buy Carnival gift cards with points at 10% off face value. $100. cards are 90.00 plus postage; 500.00 cards are 450.00 plus postage. Free delivery if you want e-cards.
