Sapphire or Magens Beach?

This will be our first time to St. Thomas and have narrowed it down to Sapphire or Magens. What is your opinion of the 2? From what I could tell, Sapphire may be a little less crowded. I saw that it took approx 25 minutes to get to Magens, how long will it take to get to Sapphire? I've seen conflicting taxi fares to Sapphire ranging from $10 per person each way to $20 per person each way....any confirmations on taxi fare from the pier? Thanks !!!

Your decision will also depend on what you're planning to do on your beach day. Do you just want to lounge in a chair with an umbrella and take a swim in calm waters- if so, go to Magen's Bay. If you are active and want to snorkel or maybe rent a kayak or do other water sports- then go to Sapphire Beach

I vote for Magens- a really beautiful beach IMO one of the nicest in the Caribbean, with perfect water- because of this it can attract crowds depending upon how many ships are in port. But worth it- come early so you can rent an umbrella and chairs if you desire.

One note- we were just in St. Thomas a couple of weeks ago and didn't go to the beach- other options- not sure how badly the beaches were hit by the hurricanes.

Magan’s Bay Beach is very popular, but costly.

We paid $8.00 each, each way for taxi = $32.00

Admission $5.00 each = $10.00

Chair rental $8.00 each = $$16.00

Unbrella Rental $10.00

Tip for setup $5.00

Total $73.00 for two

We didn’t pay for admission. Took a cab with another couple. Did pay for chairs and an umbrella
