to_the_c Posted February 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2018 As a USA passenger I believe that my on board account will be debited nightly for optional gratuities on a Princess Australian based ship. Just wondering if the $13.50 USD will be charged in AUD with a 1:1 conversion rate as are my OBC...or, if the $13.50 will first be converted to AUD at some prevailing monetary exchange rate. Thank you for your response.
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2018 You might want to ask about this on the P&O Australia Cruise Line Board as well. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=431 Keith

Thank you for your response. Princess ships based in Australia (Sun Princess for example) do not charge daily gratuities. The fare paid includes all that you pay. If you wish to tip the waiters or cabin stewards extra, feel free to do so. The on board account is in AUD. Like any cruise ine, at check in you can choose which currency you want your card charged in, such as let your bank do the conversion. Conversion rates are definitely not 1:1 USD tto AUD - we wish! You might not. P&O might own many brands, but Princess Cruises are not P&O cruises. Different ship, different cruise lines.
mef_57 Posted February 2, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2018 I would suggest asking Princess USA because gratuities are not bundled in for all global areas. It will depend on which website you booked...the US one or the Aus one....or ask on the Princess Boards.

You are still paying them, only they have rolled them into the base fare to safeguard them against a large number of local cruisers who typically would remove them if they had the option.
