rslinky Posted February 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2018 Wondering what your favorite place for sail away or sea days is for an uncrowded area to relax and view the scenery. We have mostly sailed HAL and love the Crows Nest. Is there any place comparable on the Breakaway. We have a balcony if we don’t find a better place. Just like the forward facing views. Rare shof515 Posted February 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2018 how about aft views? i noticed on deck 8 aft, pass the waterfront area is better. less crowded, very quiet area and hardly no one goes back there. it is also a good spot to see the ships wake
Rare BirdTravels Posted February 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2018 We like Deck 16 watching port for the views of Manhattan then switching starboard for the SOL. Deck 17 all the way forward has wonderful views too. But you have to head there IMMEDIATELY after muster to stake a claim on the railing. But only a few more weeks in NYC, then gone. Epiro Funchal Posted February 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2018 how about aft views? i noticed on deck 8 aft, pass the waterfront area is better. less crowded, very quiet area and hardly no one goes back there. it is also a good spot to see the ships wake The Waterfront walkway around Deck 8 aft on the previous cruise (Jan 19th) was inaccessible for the entire cruise. There were signs that said something like closed due to maintenance and closed due to weather conditions.
bob brown Posted February 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2018 Unfortunately, the last NCL ship to have anything like HAL's Crow's Nest, was the Spinnaker Lounge on the Gem.... That will be corrected when the new Bliss arrives (not counting the China based Joy)... The closest you can get on the Breakaway for an indoor forward view, would be if you have access to the Spa, where those nice ceramic, heated lounger's are located....called the 'Salt Room' on the deck plans..... Giantfan13 Posted February 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 4, 2018 Sailing out of NY, the Port side you will see the NY Skyline, Empire State Building, the Freedom Tower and the Lower Manhattan Skyline. Then move over to the Starboard side for the Statue of Liberty. Anywhere is fine to sail under the Verrazano Bridge. Cheers Len

There were signs that said something like closed due to maintenance and closed due to weather conditions. There were some ceiling panels that came off during the New Year's cruise storm....they were replacing them during our cruise, but weren't finished..... You could still go out on the deck for most of its length, on either side...just not the portion that curved around the stern
bob brown Posted February 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2018 You can also get a pretty good view from Spice H2O, although the big screen obstructs the view aft....weather permitting, that is where they conduct sail away parties
TrpngBilly Posted February 4, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2018 We sailed out of NYC on BA last year and we were lucky that the weather was unseasonably warm for February. It was a bit windy, but it was sunny and warm. We started by the pool and then just kept going up. We eventually found a great spot to watch both sides of our departure. The NYC skyline is really cool and Lady Liberty is also awesome.
crabby5 Posted February 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2018 There’s a public sun deck on 18 that I don’t think many people know about (or maybe they think it’s part of vibe). It has awesome views all around for sail away. It was not crowded at all. To get there, go forward and get to deck 17, there’s a bar there and Vibe, but there’s a set of stairs to the one side of the bar to go up to 18. rslinky Posted February 5, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Thanks all for your suggestions. We will be on Breakaway for a Baltic cruise this summer. We both really enjoy being able to see the views when leaving port. And we both prefer the quieter areas rather than fighting for space along the railing. Don't know if you've been over to the Northern Europe/Baltics board on the port of call section. If not, go over and anything you might want to know about the Baltics and each port, there is some one there to help. I have been a regular on that board since we did our cruise there. It is just a wealth of info. Cheers Len
