Javert1969 Posted February 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Hi all, We are going on our first NCL cruise next week on Spirit. Is there a dress code for dinner in the restaurants? cheers
Two Wheels Only Posted February 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Dress requirements vary. If you tell us the ship and the restaurant, we can tell you the requirement. NCL is mostly "cruise casual" with a few "smart casual" restaurants. CRUISE CASUAL Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. SMART CASUAL Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it's jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. The dailies will have the particulars for each ship. For example, Escape allows shorts in all MDRs while some ships require long pants in one of the MDRs.
cruisinreunion Posted February 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2018 We were on the jade this past fall. There were two main dining rooms with same exact menus. One was for the “typical” cruise cadual and even dressier cruisers. The other one was for more casual dress-people wore shorts and T-shirt’s. It was a smaller dining room which also made it nice. We would still dress up a bit but didn’t feel awkward sitting next to shorts on one side and a nice dress on the other side
Rare BirdTravels Posted February 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2018 NCL embraces the “dress up or not” philosophy. Short pants are actually allowed in all dining rooms for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, the only restaurants where gentlemen are required to wear long pants are the windows main dining room and Le bistro specialty dining room. Short pants and a Collared shirt are except a bowl and all other dining rooms. It was a very relaxed environment. Enjoy your cruise.
Zeno Posted February 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Within reason - it's up to you - no mandatory formal nights, no suits needed. My husband usually wears long pants like khakkis or nice jeans to dinner. I wear capris. I think shorts are now OK also.
cheaperts Posted February 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Just have decent pants or jeans and you can get into any venue, most just shorts and a shirt will do
workingtocruise-59 Posted February 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2018 This will be our first NCL cruise. I always " dress up" for dinner on a cruise and have clothing "for cruising" that I wouldn't normally wear on land. Will I look (and, more importantly, feel) out of place if I wear a cocktail dress, an embellished kaftan, a full length dress etc etc?
Two Wheels Only Posted February 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Will I look (and, more importantly, feel) out of place if I wear a cocktail dress, an embellished kaftan, a full length dress etc etc? No, not at all. You won't be the only one dressed in that way.
workingtocruise-59 Posted February 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2018 No, not at all. You won't be the only one dressed in that way. Thank you! That is so reassuring! We have cruised on "country club casual" lines before ( being in the UK I am not entirely sure what that means as we don't have country clubs!) but have never felt uncomfortable wearing non-casual clothing. casofilia Posted February 10, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2018 I always wear shorts to dine on NCL except at the "Eat with an Officer" table; in Le Bistro or when my wife demands I do (about once a cruise)!!!
