parrothead1954 Posted February 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Can anyone recommend any excursions/things to see,do, and eat on the various stops on the Alaska route? We want to patronize local businesses and don't really want to do "tourist trips" that the cruise line offers. Thanks in advance
2Xayear Posted February 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2018 parrothead, it would be a better idea for you to research each of your port of calls and read what others have done and what they have thought of any tour. You question is vague and open ended and you have given no details of your interests.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2018 What are you your ports? Do you like to view whales, sealife, wildlife? To like like hiking? Do you like to view glaciers from helicopters, float planes? Give us some idea of what you want to do.
parrothead1954 Posted February 11, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 11, 2018 since it's Eurodam in September, pretty sure their stops are Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan. Not sure what's "vague". We don't want to do what the cruise ships offer. We want to give our money to local businesses. As I mentioned the words "visit, see and eat". CruiserBruce Posted February 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2018 As you don't want to the ship based activities, come over to the Alaska board, here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55 where you will find tons of info on each port, and you can select what interests you. We cruised on her this past September - don't forget Victoria, BC Definitely do some research on each port of call the Alaska board will help and see what interests you. We have always used third party tour operators on our cruises with the exception of the Mt Roberts Tram we purchased on board - after our whale watch/Mendenhall Glacier tour with Juneau Whale Watch, having dinner at Tracy's Crab Shack and shopping at the Taku Store, we were too tired to go up the tram and by purchasing the tix from HAL, we were able to return it for a full refund.
