cruisesusie Posted February 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2018 Has anyone toured the towns on the Amalfi coast by boat? If that is a possibility, we may opt for that instead of a private tour by car. Thanks, Susan
Grant2000 Posted February 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2018 There are a number of ferries that connect Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi and Salerno. If you like, you can catch the ferries in one direction and return via the local bus service along the Amalfi Coast. https://amalfiitaly.ca/transportation/ferryservice.html

marazul Posted February 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2018 There are also boat tours that include swimming stops. For example, http://www.coopsantonio.com/en/amalfi-and-positano-private-tour?gclid=Cj0KCQiAq6_UBRCEARIsAHyrgUxDqNad60SHC_yNVnzPk9dROJOrl3owyy214c6xUnEzYgShzjdA17saAnSzEALw_wcB http://www.giannisboat.com/en/tour http://www.positano.com/en/boat-tours
Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 20, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2018 If doing this on your own on a port visit day, just be aware of the timings involved. The ferries don't run continuously and the buses along the Amalfi Coast drive can be supercrowded in the peak season months. I'd suggest limiting yourself to one or two towns if you choose to DIY this way.
euro cruiser Posted February 20, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2018 DIY the best way to maximize your time is to take the first train you can get from Naples to Salerno and ferries from there. Just as an example, if your ship arrives to Naples at 7 AM you should be able to make either the 7:55 train from Naples Centrale to Salerno, arriving at 8:38 or the 8:35, arriving at 9:12. Either one allows you to connect to the 9:40 ferry which takes you to either Amalfi (arrives 10:15 AM) or Positano (arrives just before 11 AM). These are 2017 ferries times but I wouldn't expect they'll change a whole lot: http://www.travelmar.it/it/orari
Grandma Cruising Posted February 20, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 20, 2018 If your ship has Amalfi as a port then it will be easy as the ferries stop in the harbour there. Sent from my iPad using Forums
cruisesusie Posted February 21, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Our port is Salerno. Does that make a difference? Thanks, Susan
marazul Posted February 21, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Our port is Salerno. Does that make a difference? Thanks, Susan That is ideal. The Amalfi coast ferries leave from Salerno. Look them up in a map.
euro cruiser Posted February 21, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Yes, Salerno is a much better location for what you want to do. There are a few ferries each day from Molo Manfredi, where the cruise ships port. There are even more from the Concordia dock, about a mile and a half further down the waterfront. The 2018 schedules won't be posted until they start (or just before) in April.
travelingla Posted February 23, 2018 #12 Share Posted February 23, 2018 I have not see Salerno on an itinerary -- is this a larger 'popular' cruise line or one of the smaller luxury lines? Also, do any of the larger cruise ships go along the Amalfi coast? Thank you
euro cruiser Posted February 24, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2018 During the 2017 season Royal Caribbean used Salerno with Brilliance of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas.
