JeanieCM Posted February 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) We've done the 18 day Hawaii (Westerdam) and 14 day Eastern/Western Caribbean (Eurodam). Now we'll be doing the Atlantic Coast cruise on Maasdam in August. I read that jeans aren't allowed on Maasdam in Lido--that can't be correct, can it? Is the Maasdam somewhat dressier than the other ships or pretty much the same? What is the internet service like for that cruise? The Westerdam's was superb (and cheap!)...the Eurodam, expensive and spotty. Has anyone done this Atlantic Cruise in August? Were the outside temperatures "seasonable" eg. mostly in the 70's during the day, low 50's at night? Are there individual thermostats in the cabins & do they work well? This girl freezes a lot of the time. ;) Have learned to ask for a couple blankets as soon as we board, but still...;p Edited February 26, 2018 by JeanieCM

Rare Copper10-8 Posted February 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2018 What Old as Dirt Mom said! Whoever is claiming that jeans are not allowed in the Lido has got their facts screwed up big time. Enjoy Maasie in August!
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 26, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2018 One of our Boston-to-Montreal-to -Boston cruises was the last week of August and first week of September. Weather was great except for a couple of chilly days. Yes you have individual thermostats in your cabin to control your cabin temperature. Yes you can wear jeans in the Lido and in the dining room for breakfast and lunch.
liketraveling Posted February 26, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I did a Panama Canal Cruise last year and there were folks in the lido at dinner time in shorts and tank tops. Unless things have changed in the last year, you can wear jeans in the lido.
RMLincoln Posted February 26, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Yes there are thermostats in the cabin; whether they work or not is hit and miss. DH calls it a wall decoration, especially for the S class ships, such as Maasdam. Usually they will respond but slowly. Talk to your room steward about where to set it for what you want. Sometimes we've had the maintenance people reset a thermostat, helped a little. It may take a day or two to change much. Worst issues we've had were rooms that were too hot, 82 -85F. All they could do was offer us a fan. Haven't had problems with rooms too cold. Bring an alarm clock with a temperature read-out so you can track the temperature trends by taking photos that will show the date and time, in case you are struggling with the front desk people for help. We've been in OV rooms... YMMV. m--
betonic Posted February 26, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Internet was decent on Maasdam in December but expensive since you buy the service by the minute. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Hlitner Posted February 26, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Yes, there are thermostats in the cabins of all HAL ships. One friend once argued that they were there for decoration and not actually connected to anything :(. Our own experience is that sometimes the thermostats actually work....and other times they seem to have little impact....other then hot, hotter or hottest. JeanieCM Posted March 9, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted March 9, 2018 There are package deals but pretty expensive, IMO. I paid $250 for 1000 minutes on Eurodam in January. Service was spotty and connection took a long time. Loved the Westerdam where they are/were trying out a social media only package...paid like $130 for unlimited internet...and that was on an 18 day cruise. If I wasn't addicted to Facebook, I'd be a lot richer. :D
