Recommendations for cruise for Honeymooners in their 20s?

A sweet couple I know are getting married in November 2006. They are both in their 20's. Neither of them are the type to sit on a beach all day. They like the idea of cruising. I suggested a cruise in Hawaii, but they are not crazy about all that time on the plane. (We are from New York City). What cruise would you suggest?

7 night Carribean cruise from Florida (Port Canavral, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami). Short flight and lots of choices for destinations. East Carib. or West Carib. iteneraries (sp?) both offer great destinations. Carribean cruises generally have a younger demographic it seems. Someone in 20's may prefer Carnival "The Fun Ships". Hope this helps.

P.S. - You can also generally find great deals from Fl. Usually much less than $100 per night/per person.

I really don't think it matters-they are young and in love and will be on their honeymoon-my bet they will spend more time in their stateroom then anywhere else. Hawaii would really be a waste.

If they were getting married a month or 2 earlier I would say go for Bermuda-I found Bermuda absolutely the most beautiful island I have seen yet and heck if they book a balcony they could see much right from there. A balcony would be great for private dinners too-so I do recommend they get at least a balcony stateroom-no matter what cruise they pick.

I do think that since they hate the idea of a long flight; that more and more of the cruiselines are doing like the 10 days cruises from the caribbean roundtrip from places like New York, New Jersey and Boston -maybe they should check into them.

I highly recommend the Norwegian Dawn out of NY. It is a fantastic ship. It has ten different restaurants where you can eat anytime at a table for 2 or a larger table if they are in the mood. The casino is fantastic on this ship and the bands and entertainment are fabulous. There is a great mix of people from all over the world on this ship with lots of young people in their 20's. We sailed the Dawn last December and have it booked again for January 2007. We sail RCCL, NCL, and Carnival but loved sailing from NY on the Dawn more than any other cruise.

We sailed the Dawn out of NY in December last year and loved this ship. It was so much fun sailing past the Statue of Liberty. The ship had a great mix of people of all ages. We met people from all over the world onboard.

The Dawn has ten different restaurants: Italian, Mexican, French, American, Japanese, Chinese/Fast Food, Venetian Dining Room (formal), Steak House, etc., etc. You can eat dinner at anytime between 5pm and 10pm. We enjoyed the poolside BBQ each day and the stadium style pool deck because you could always find a chaise lounge. This ship has lots of private areas for sunbathing too. There are also several hot tub areas. There is an indoor pool and huge hot tub adjacent to the Spa area.

I enjoyed the Bimini Bar high atop the pool deck because there was a panoramic view of the ports as we were departing. We also enjoyed the chicken terriyaki, burgers, and hot dogs whenever you wanted something quick.

Many young couples enjoy the casino, bars, movie theater (with popcorn), great bands--not to mention fantastic theater entertainment nightly. Lots to do and great ports of call make the Dawn my number one selection for a great honeymoon. Leaving NY and waking up in the gulf stream waters the next morning with that warm tropical air is just fantastic. We noticed the humid air just a few hours after departing NY because the gulf stream is not very far off the coast of NJ. We noticed the water temp stayed at 73 degrees all the way from St. Thomas to NJ in the gulf stream. Guess that's why Bermuda stays warm that time of year. November is a fantastic time to sail from NY.

  • 2 weeks later...

NCL Dawn and Spirit are both sailing year round out of NYC and, I believe HAL Noordam will be back from Europe at that point and offering sailings from NYC. Hawaii is a long haul from NYC but, if they don't mind flying to Florida, they will have lots of other choices!

If they do not like sitting on a beach, then why would they go to the Caribbean? Although it would be easy to leave out of NY, that just gives them sea time and I would think that would not be a good solution.

The southern Caribbean itineraries are more port intensive and a large ship - like Adventure of the Seas - would give them a lot of activities to choose from. Not my taste, but great for that age group.

If they are active, why not a ski trip or a golf or tennis resort?

I agree. Though I haven't been on this ship, friends of mine took their first cruise last year on this ship for a 7 night cruise. They're leaving again in a few weeks for a 10 night cruise out of NYC to a different part of the caribbean.

My husband and I did a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas w/ Carnival when we were 19 and loved it. We were on teh Fantasy. I would highly recommend it! There were so many things to do and we had a blast.

We got so many congrats and they sang "Happy Honeymoon" to us, and also gave us a cake after supper one night! They made it very special!

Although we loved the 4 day (it was all we could really afford, we were and still are in college LOL) I would have preferred a 5 or 7 dayer!

I am not big on the beach either but you don't have to just sit on the beach at any of these places.

I would recommend that they consider a cruise to Bermuda out of New York. My wife and I first went there in our early 20's and have gone back there a few times since on cruises. Many cruise lines go to Bermuda. One to look at is Celebrity although they can look at the others that were mentioned.

Bermuda is a great place and less pushy than the caribbean in terms of people trying to sell you things. While there are nice beaches there, there are plenty of things to do that are not beach oriented.
