matamanoa Posted March 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Does anyone know if passengers can do a walk off with luggage at the Civitavecchia port? We have done this before to get a good head start on our day and have been able to so in North American ports but were surprised to learn that Australia does not allow this as all luggage has to be off loaded before any passengers can disembark. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2018 We've had the same experience as cruisemom42 mentioned. Keith
wieslaw Posted March 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2018 We walked off with ours on a cruise that started and ended in Civitavecchia ( last year in July) - so no immigration/passport control or customs were involved. I am not sure if it works the same for ships /passengers that come from outside the EU and Civitavecchia is their first stop in EU.

Rare Sailing12Away Posted March 11, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2018 Anyone have insight on how long the disembarkation process takes in Rome? We're trying to catch a 9:30am train in Civitavecchia to Rome Termini for our transfer to Vencie. Ship is supposed to dock at 6am. Are we being unrealistic in thinking we can catch that train? wieslaw Posted March 11, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2018 We were on Jewel OTS and walked off the ship with our luggage at 8AM. I have seen people leaving the ship about 6:45am. Since we did not have to look for our luggage we just left the ship and went to our waiting driver and few minutes later we were on our way. Grant2000 Posted March 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Trains run every few minutes from Civitavecchia to Rome, so if you miss your train, you can always catch the next one. Keep in mind, however, that the train station is a long walk from the cruise port. You'll need to catch a taxi. https://romeitaly.ca/transportation/rome-cruiseport.html

You should have no problem catching that train. Be sure to allow enough time for the logistics though. Assuming you don't want to walk with luggage, you'll need to take the free port shuttle to the drop-off area, then take a local bus to the train station.
