Any recommendations for accomodations in Miami for one night?

Mjohnson

In 11/2005 we stay at the Holiday Inn South Beach ok place. Runned down, close to the beach.

This year we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Downtown, close to Bayside Market Place. Would not reccomend walking at night. Take a taxi or see if a shuttles runs back and forth. Rooms are nice (big). Very clean. Close to the Pier. I just read a post where a couple was on Priceline 4* and paid no more than $75.00. Check it out. Good Luck

Im looking for something more specific. I want a nice hotel that have a view of the port and would that make it close to the marketplace? We stayed at the Sheraton Four Points, Miami Beach and it was great but they billed us twice and now I have to prove I paid ahead of time. So now Im looking for another hotel.

I dont just want a list, I can get a list from the phone book. I want opinions and experiences. We are willing to pay approximately $200.00 per night. I like the vacation cruise to start as soon as I get to Miami. Not just stay in room for the night.

Thanks for any help

I share your same opinions. I just booked the Intercontinental, 4* hotel through Priceline at the recommendation of Kuki on CM, and many other cruisers. Bid won was $132 for Nov. 4. I believe it is the only 4*, Miami Downtown hotel. The lowest rate on other sites was $229. The lowest rate for the Holiday Inn was $110 but also needed to be paid immediately. I know this doesn't answer you "experience" question, but hope it helps make a similar decision. Hyatt is noisey near a draw bridge, so I stayed away from them.

Bon Voyage

The "list" is compiled from other cruisers favorable reports on these boards over the years. If you use the boards "search" feature you can pull up individual cruisers reviews of the respective hotels. If your not comfortable using the "search" feature, try tripadvisor.com ;)

Nice 4-star hotel in downtown Miami, within walking distance to Bayside Marketplace... Intercontinental... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ic/1/en/hd/miaha?irs=null

Nice 3-star hotel with the best view of the Port of Miami, but not safe to walk to Bayside, it's a 3-5 minute cab ride away... Biscayne Bay Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/miabb

It looks awsome! Do they offer a shuttle from the airport and a shuttle to the port? Is is on the beach? I can't tell from the picture.

The Fontainebleau is a wonderful hotel, however it's in the middle of a major $150 million remodeling project at the moment. It's directly on the beach, but unless you just want to spend your time at the hotel you'll probably want a rental car if you stay there as there's really nothing to walk to outside of a the hotel except to a couple of other hotels. There are NO airport or port shuttles from any Miami hotels, only the airport hotels have airport shuttles.

Trent,

Thanks for all of your posts. It is nice to have someone local share information.

I wonder, a lot of the cruise ships use to use the Fountainblue as a pre cruise with a pick up..... Have they stopped due to the renos? I really like that hotel for a pre-stay.

We were in South beach last month and walked by all the older hotels, The Shelburke, Mirage(I think). We thought it might be kind of fun to stay in one of these hotels. Do you have any knowledge of these older hotels?? We did notice a lot of high end cars pulling in.

I know that in the past some cruise lines offered the Fontainebleau as part of a pre/post cruise package, and I would assume included transportation if you booked their package. I have no idea if they're still using it or not, but the hotel is no longer a Hilton. It was sold last year to Turnberry Associates, who built the new condo-hotel tower and they're currently building another new tower as well as completely renovating the original tower. They're a first class company and it will be absolutely SPECTACULAR when it's all completed.

The classic Art Deco hotels in South Beach are very nice if you stay in one that's been gutted and modernized. The nicer hotels have and can be quite pricey, some of the others however have not been modernized and are a bit scary! I haven't been in them all, but I have been in quite a few of them and like the ones below...

Biscayne Blvd. It looks like this hotel is totally full now too.

Ah ok... Yes, that one seems to be full almost every night. It's a basic, older hotel, but has a lot of fans on here. It's fine for a night as long as you're not expecting a 4 or 5-star experience, and is the least expensive non-scary hotel in downtown Miami. The location is it's biggest advantage as it's directly across the street from Bayside Marketplace and the bridge to the Port of Miami.

I just got back sunday and I say if you have some time the only place to stay is the Fountaine Blue in South Beach. It was the best part of our whole cruise trip!

The Fountainbleu is NOT in South Beach but Mid Beach. It is a couple of miles from South Beach.

Has anyone stayed at the Colony Hotel lately?

I saw a resonable rate for them..but am wondering is this a "scary" hotel.

or..is there a room in South Beach that is under $200? for a night that is nice?

Thanks for you help
