Scotty1&2 Posted March 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2018 First time on a river cruise going from Basel to Amsterdam. Wondering about the weather and what type of clothes to bring. Thanks for feedback
Lyn3165 Posted March 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We are also doing a Viking cruise from Basel to Amsterdam the first week in June and have no idea what to pack. More importantly, what to shop for BEFORE I pack. Anyone help us out with a previous experience with the weather.
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted March 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) We sailed the Rhine in June two years ago. The lowlands was rain almost every day. Once we went upriver, the skies cleared and it unseasonably hot. No telling what this year will bring. Invest in a quality lightweight waterproof jacket. My wife did a lot of research and we bought Marmot brand Wayfarer jackets and have used them on all our trips. You can roll them up and throw the into a handbag. BTW Viking provides umbrellas so don't bother bringing one. Edited March 19, 2018 by OneSixtyToOne
Floridiana Posted March 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Expect sunshine and rain with temperatures ranging from 50 to 80 degrees. Evenings are much cooler than at high noon. Dress in layers! You might hit a nasty rainy week or perfectly fine summer weather. Wear good walking shoes. I bought ecco walking sandals in Germany.
Rare notamermaid Posted March 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2018 June does have a wide range of temperatures and weather, as Floridiana has said. From Basel to Amsterdam you will be going through more than one micro-climate, so you can hit a heatwave in the upper Rhine valley and have torrential rain in Amsterdam (if you are unlucky). Here is a site to help you along as you get closer to the date of your cruise: https://www.wetteronline.de/wetterbericht The page is the overall weather for Germany. On the right there is a graph that says 14-Tage-Wetter. There you can change the town and it gives you the weather for the next 14 days. notamermaid
Emmaline61 Posted August 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2018 We are taking a Uni World River Cruise Sept 9 on the Rhine river. It was supposed to be in August during our wedding Anniversary. We were told about this 2 days before we were to leave. Luckily we had no plans before that to go early. The water level on the Rhine was to low for the ship. We have rescheduled for Sept now. Down to the count down again. We will be on the SS Antoinette. So now we are repacking warmer clothes. Should be high 60 to low 70. Fingers crossed. Any suggestions would be great. Bringing a rain poncho also. Just want to relax, nothing fancy. :) Also Uni World has upgraded us and is taking care of all the flight and rescheduling for us. We booked everything through them.
