Could, Should Princess Offer RT Itineraries West Coast Cruises To Tahiti?

The ship was called the Tahitian Princess for about 5 years while she was based in Papeete. After that she was renamed the Ocean Princess and sailed under that name until she was sold to Oceanea a couple of years ago.

My question was inquiring about which CURRENT Princess ship(s) in the fleet could do the sailing.

It also deserves noting that: Moreso than the amount of PAX swamping the small islands making large ships infeasible for cruising such an itinerary.....Many of the FP islands have very narrow and/or shallow channels allowing for passage through their outer reefs. This makes it impossible (and/or very dangerous) for larger cruise ships with their increased beam(s) and draft(s) from accessing their piers or sheltered anchorage(for tendering).

When Princess sold the Ocean Princess AND the Royal Princess(also R-class), the ability of Princess to offer (RT) French Polynesia sailings went to the wayside.

For those that may be interested, HAL is currently offering a 14-day (RT) Papeete sailing(Oct. 14) that (in addition to some Society islands ports-of-call) also includes Nuka Hiva & Hiva Oa(Marquesians), Rangiroa(Tuamotus) and Raratonga(Cook islands).

When Renaissance went bankrupt shortly after 911, Princess purchased three of the R class ships. One of them is now the Pacific Princess. Another became the Tahitian Princess and then later the Ocean Princess. Under the terms of the purchase agreement for the Tahitian, Princess agreed to base the TP in Tahiti for 5 years. In turn, they got a nice discount from France which owned the mortgage on the ship and acquired it in bankruptcy. The TP did mostly 10 day r/t Papeete cruises with an occasional 12 night Papeete to Honolulu followed by the reverse.

We always enjoyed the R ships. Both Aramark and Oceania also have some of those small vessels. When we cruised the R4 in Tahiti we had breakfast with the English gentleman who actually designed the R ships. It was the first time he had ever cruised on a ship he designed. He also designed the Soverign of the Seas which led to him being knighted by the Queen.
