Brissle Posted March 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2018 Hi, We would be very grateful if anyone who has done the North Pacific Circle route (Japan to Alaska) could advise on typical / average weather to be expected during the 7 days crossing. We will leave Japan on 20th May and reach Kodiak, Alaska on 27th May. We know it could still be chilly in Alaska when we get there, but the crossing is a puzzle - can't find any data anywhere. Floridiana Posted March 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2018 You can google the temperature in your last Japanese port and in your first Alaskan port. It is not going to be warmer in between. Does your ship take on fuel in a Siberian city? That's another google point. We will do this the other way round in October and prepare for cold, rainy, windy. nobog Posted March 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2018 We did that a couple yrs ago, seas mostly calm - 50's to mid 60's - sat out by the pool with a sweater - so "nice", except dense fog so that cancelled our Dutch Harbor port call. Your experience may vary, as per any cruise. JK
cb at sea Posted March 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2018 A person's experience during 1 week in an area will NOT give you a "normal" view of the averages. Weather is unpredictable. You can google "average temps" for anyplace....and they will give you the "average"....that really means nothing, tho! Your week might be hotter, or colder, rougher or calmer than "average"! Brissle Posted March 30, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Thanks Floridiana, I guess that's what we will get - I have average temperatures for Kushiro (Japan) and Kodiak (Alaska) and both are on the chilly side in late May. We forgot to consider the weather when we booked this cruise - were just attracted by the itinerary and days at sea (which we enjoy). Oh well, no sunbathing on deck this time, then.
