Dawn Question regarding "New Yorkers"

I, too, am a former New Yorker (of the Brooklyn variety), and escaped to Northern California.

The crowd on the Dawn is definitely middle-class, blue collar NYC. (Whether that is encouraging or not is for you to decide.) Other than the occasional "Yo Bayonne is in da house!" announcements from intoxicated cruisers (which wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't in the middle of a performance of piano ballads), the crowd is reasonably well-behaved. The exception in my experience was at the casino, where several persons seemed to doing there best "Joe Pesci in Goodfellas" impressions--and these were women!

To me hearing something like "Yo Bayonne is in da house!" is just an acknowledgement that I am home! LOL I guess it's hard to take if you haven't grown up with it. And, I'm getting talked into the Dawn at this point. Thanks for all the input everyone!

We were on the Dawn in November, and I don't think the people were any different than any other cruise we've been on. There are always some who are "characters."

It was a diverse group. There were a group of French (perhaps French Canadians), some Russians, lots of orientals, midwesterners, Brits, Germans, Canadians, and lots of people from the northeast. I particularly enjoyed watching the oriential ladies doing their exercises on deck in the mornings. It looks so relaxing.

A few years back, my mother-in-law (who lived in NYC) died, and we had to take care of all the arrangements and her financial matters. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, it really touched my heart.

We'll be back on the Dawn in February and can't wait!

Are there ever any Left Coasters? Or do we just blend in......

There were several Californians on my Dawn cruise a year ago. I was so amazed to meet so many Europeans on our cruise. I guess NY does attract people from all over the world.

On our Dawn cruise a year ago we met a delightful couple who happen to live across the street from us (literally) in an apartment building on West 100th street. They were absolutely wonderful and in 25 years we had never met them in NYC! On our Crown cruise (out of NY) last Sept we had tea with a pair of elderly twin ladies from the East Side who have to be among the sweetest and courtliest folks we ever hope to meet. New York is a big place and we have all sorts here ;) although with so many people in such limited space, our stress levels are probably higher than in other places...it takes us the first few days of a cruise to decompress! (Have patience with us, by day 3 we're much better...) Note: on all our cruises out of NYC, there are been substantial groups of foreigners. 150 Germans on the Dawn (stayed to themselves, sat in the hottubs in the freezing cold) 100 Irish on the Crown (brought their own musicians, who played for everyone at sailaway :) and masses of Canadians & French at other times. There's something for everyone around here... (BTW, when I look at the addresses of the bitterest and angriest posters on CC, I'm relieved to see that they are spread pretty evenly across the USA, and not centered in my hometown ;) )
