Rellyrooly Posted April 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I have purchased the Voom and wondering what apps do you all like best for calling home or video chatting and texting? Should I just stick with FaceTime and regular phone and iMessage (Have an iPhone) or is there a better app to get to communicate with my loved ones back at home? lajbec Posted April 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2018 We use google hangouts since it be used by all platforms not just apple. We use wifi calling built into our phones to text and make calls. I think you can do all of that from google hangouts too. Sent from my SM-G950U using Forums mobile app

If you turn on WiFi calling, your phone will be fully functional for voice calls and texting, just as if you are on your home network. You must enable WiFi calling while on a celluar network, so it's best to do that before you leave home.
Tatka Posted April 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2018 We use FaceTime, Skype and simple Wi-Fi calling. Don't forget to turn your airplane mode on!

Biker19 Posted April 11, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2018 I have purchased VOOM....? Should I just stick with FaceTime and regular phone and iMessage (Have an iPhone)? FYI - you don't even need to buy VOOM for iMessage to work on Harmony.;)
Rellyrooly Posted April 11, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted April 11, 2018 FYI - you don't even need to buy VOOM for iMessage to work on Harmony.;) Really? Wouldn’t that require my cellular service to be on and I’d be charged data? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Merion_Mom Posted April 11, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Really? Wouldn’t that require my cellular service to be on and I’d be charged data? Sent from my iPhone using Forums No, it's a "flaw" in the network on Harmony.
Clarea Posted April 11, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Really? Wouldn’t that require my cellular service to be on and I’d be charged data? No, put the phone in Airplane mode and connect (but don't log in) to Royal WiFi. There's a bug in the firewall that allows free iMessage use without being logged into VOOM. Sam_Eagle Posted April 12, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2018 FaceTime & Skype are also used on all platformsFacetime is an Apple product, and therefore not available on Android or Windows devices. So, it cannot be used on all platforms, just on iOS devices Sent from my SM-G950U using Forums mobile app
E23NK1 Posted April 12, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 12, 2018 So is this the process then?... enable wifi calling first while on your carriers network? then when onboard the ship, put your phone in Airplane mode? then enable wifi and enter your Voom access code? Thanks, Eric

Thanks, Eric Correct, except I would add this one step: "then enable wifi, connect to the Royal WiFi wireless service, and enter your Voom access code?"
