Rare cruisemom42 Posted April 23, 2018 #27 Share Posted April 23, 2018 CaribbeanBound...Please come back and let us know how it works out with your early tour of the Sistine Chapel. I will be watching for your post! If we limit our time in Rome, I am hoping to be able book a tour to see the Sistine Chapel, and the colosseum, before transferring to the cruise port. Hopefully this is doable. Not sure what other 'musts' we would be missing!!! If you are beginning and ending your trip in Rome (which you mention in another post), you really, really should spend a few days there, either at the beginning of your trip or the end of it. Rome is a city that has weeks if not months' worth of things to see, depending on your interests. If you like the Colosseum, you should also see the Forum, the Pantheon, the Baths of Caracalla, the Capitoline museum, Trajan's column, and more..... If you are interested in the Sistine chapel, you should visit the Borghese gallery, the Raphael rooms at the Vatican museum (and the National Museum at the Palazzo Massimo delle Terme to see where the Renaissance artists got their inspiration from....) If you like people watching and beautiful fountains, you must visit the Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona, and more How about a beautiful park? (Villa Borghese gardens) One of the oldest Jewish ghettoes? A 2,000 year old drain cover that will bite off your hand if you tell a lie? (Mouth of Truth) A beautiful bridge with angel sculptures (Ponte Sant'Angelo) The tomb of a Roman emperor? (Castel Sant'Angelo) The most famous Roman road? (the Appian way) Christian catacombs? (several locations)
