JudyjudyjudyS Posted April 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2018 We were about 60 miles+ out and have turned around. Arriving back in Galveston at 11PM. Casino closed as well as all shops. Can’t imagine what this must be costing RC. Just curious if anyone has any idea what is going on. If a loved one of mine were involved I would certainly be glad we had turned around. Just curious if anyone know what is going on.
welshrich Posted April 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2018 I hope the person involved will be ok, just as well it happened now and not in the middle of the atlantic.

pookeysmom Posted April 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2018 (edited) I’m on board the vision. My family saw a body bag put into a hearse when we arrived at the port, so it didn’t end well for that family unfortunately Edited April 17, 2018 by pookeysmom Spelling
leisuretraveler223 Posted April 17, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2018 Just curious if anyone has any idea what is going on. You said in your topic it's a medical emergency. Beyond that, no different than on land- none of your business. Stay out of their way and if so inclined, say a prayer. Otherwise, any talk is just small minded salacious gossip. leisuretraveler223 Posted April 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2018 Wow did we wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Not at all. It's one thing to be concerned for the individual involved, it's another to think you are somehow entitled to confidential health information. What difference does it make? It could be an MI, a stroke, a GI bleed, diabetic ketoacidosis, a fall.... Why on earth should anyone be entitled to know more?

Rare WrittenOnYourHeart Posted April 17, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2018 I hope the person involved will be ok, just as well it happened now and not in the middle of the atlantic. My thoughts exactly. If there's going to be a medical emergency on a TA, right at the beginning or at the end when you are able to get to shoreside help quicker is the time to have it. Debe7ing Posted April 19, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 19, 2018 Please be mindful of what you post on this subject...it was a neighbor of ours that passed, and I assure you he and his wife were not in bad health. There are a lot of people from our community that were sailing together, so there are people on the ship that you are sailing with that are hurting because they were friends and neighbors of this gentleman. Can you IMAGINE how they are feeling now? Sometimes people THINK that because the ship turned around and dropped off the patient and the immediate family members, it is a done deal. But you are sailing with several friends and neighbors of this dear gentleman who are morning his passing and I can not even imagine how sad they are feeling on what was suppose to be a very joyous time for neighbors and cruise lovers who happen to live in the same community and cruise together often. Please realize they remain onboard and overhearing "gossip" or even venting about having the casino and ships stores closed and anyone's "great time" vacation being delayed because of this untimely passing of a dear friend could be very painful. Thanks!

myfuzzy Posted April 19, 2018 #14 Share Posted April 19, 2018 Maybe when the captain does his noon position and weather for the day, he should also include any "mishaps" that have happened on board, give name and cabin number with issue involved
Junkhouse Posted April 19, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 19, 2018 It is a fine line between curiosity/concern and apathy. I read a portion of the book "Tipping Point" and it talked about how society becomes desensitized and doesn't even care about the plight of others. I was on LOS that missed a port and then had to delay getting to the next port because of a medical emergency evacuation. The two issues could have made people callous but it was heartwarming to hear people applaud the victim as he was wheeled into the ambulance. toyman55 Posted April 20, 2018 #17 Share Posted April 20, 2018 I would be curious if it was an accident or health issue, if the person was going to be okay, and hope and pray for the best. I feel those types of questions would not be out of line. Especially since it was serious enough to send a ship back to port. People are morbidly curious. Unfortunately, this ship does not appear to have a helipad.
Junkhouse Posted April 20, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 20, 2018 Well ... that could be taken more than one way. ;) No matter what, some will always look for the negative in a story or think they need to bring comic relief to a serious situation.
